Panthers acquire TJ Brennan from Sabres for 5th Round Pick

As per TSN

Press release from Florida Panthers thanks to blackpanthers

We essentially traded Ellerby for Brennan. We'll see how this works out.

I don't recall seeing him play, and judging by his 21 games played in the NHL it's hard to tell what his potential is. I guess Sabres fans would have to give information on that. From Tallon's quotes, he seems positive about him.

I asked the Sabres board and it sounds like the only positive about this guy is his shot.

Sounds like he's got a great shot with no accuracy and is a defensive liability. Should fit in well.

Sabres fan coming in to tell you about him:
Awesome big shot for the PP, Great at one timers. Looks to rush and is pretty fast. Lacks hockey IQ, lots of mistakes in skating and defensive zone. Played for Dineen in Portland. Willing to stick up for teammates. Always looking to shoot.

Not necessarily a bad thing. Always nice to have a hard shot from the point on the PP. We all know Kulikov still can't hit the net. Brennan might thrive here if he plays with Campbell on power plays.

I love these kinds of trades - cheap trades for young players who other teams have soured on.

Most of them never will work out, but all you need is one out of every 4-5 to pan out and you are way ahead of the game.

You aren't going to hit with every shot you take, so take lots of shots. Bring in a bunch of young guys during this lost season and see if you can find a diamond in someone else's castoff.

We couldn't send him to the AHL without waiving him so we kept him up. I was hoping the Sabres could have fit him into the lineup better, guess we just had too many people ahead of him. Looked good on the powerplay too. Like Tallon said, he was nearly point per game in AHL. He's better than Kuba

Garrison is good defensively. Brennan sounds like he might be a liability.

Ill take might over definitely. 90% of our current defense is definitely a liability.

I thought he was.

Just to keep it real and tell it how it is: He had the perfect chance to prove he had value - the team gets NO production from the back end, the PP is atrocious, and needed some offensive spark from the blueline. He was bad. Toasted on one on ones, couldn't hit the net if it were a garage door and he had a dodgeball to throw at it from four feet away. He's fast but you only see it when he's recovering from a bad pinch or a misplay.

No fit in Buffalo. A fresh start could do him well, though. Peep his stats in the AHL prior to getting called up. He led the Amerks in scoring. Not the D, the entire team. Could be an asset for you. Hope it works out for his sake and yours. Cheers, fellas

Based on the scouting report given, I don't think he sounds like Garrison at all.

More like Ellerby with a shot. We traded Ellerby for Ellerby!

Looks to have a bomb based on those couple of videos, hope he pans out to be a Garrison type of player.

So, let's recap:

Bad defensively
Great shot
Awful accuracy
Poor hockey IQ?

Sounds like all our current defensemen rolled into one convenient package.

Hasn't played enough in the NHL. See what he can do the rest of the season.

While he hasn't lived up to his potential in that regard in Buffalo, a change of scenery could do him well and I think he could really step up his game in this area.
