Always love for Espo in this corner.

What he gave to the B's. '72 Summit Series soliloquy, & all the unvarnished comments thereafter. That's Phil.

Glad for his part in this game,

GH

why did they cut it off right at the part where Espo asked the old Chicago GM if he used to pull a Bob Newhart on the phone when he was negotiating player salaries?

Does NHL Network have to wait for NBC sports to finish their post game wrapup before they start NHL tonight?

I know who Bob Newhart is, but what does it mean to "pull a Bob Newhart"?

Sorry about that. Bob Newhart had a famous comedic bit where he would talk on the phone by himself and have an entire, believable, conversation.

A young Espo went into the hawks GM's office to ask for a raise because he had a good previous season and the guy just coincidentally took a call about some guy wanting a raise and he chewed out whoever was on the line saying "no way that guy gets a penny more. let him rot in the minors for all i care!" Phil looked at him after he hung up and said "whatever you want to pay me is ok with me boss". He suspected he might have been set up.

I was wondering the same thing. Makes sense. The Espo show wasnt listed on the guide. I guess it was a filler show.
Newharts stand up held up well through time. Unlike watching unfunny Billy Crystal and Martin Short when they try to be funny today.
I saw Don Rickles on Kimmel last year. He walked out all hunched over and I thought "This aint gonna be good." He sat down and just started ripping and telling stories. The guy was "on" and sharper than ever.

Rickles is always on, can rip anyone about anything and it is always funny. I saw him in Vegas once and i swear to god the 1 hour show was laughes from start to finish.

I was hoping when I read the title that he was hosting his own show on NHL. I always thought he was entertaining and very knowledgable.
