ST.Johns Maple Leafs Ticked!!

http://www.canoe.ca/NewsStand/Toront...4911-sun.html]

Quote by GM John Fuguson Jr:"We're planning to keep Matt Stajan and Carlo Colaiacovo in St. John's," Ferguson said tongue in cheek.

Also in the article:
One option the Baby Leafs might look to is Europe, where most leagues already are at the playoff stage. An early elimination might make available one or two of the organization's prospects who are competing overseas.

Maybe they might bring Vorobiev over? or Steen that would be awsome!

I read the article in the paper. It sounded like Shedden was the only one who was ticked. I think he should have kept quiet myself because you never know if the Maple Leafs would be interested in doing a similar type of deal. Not maybe at the level of the one that the Chicago Wolves did but one that would still help the team.

If what Mogilny (the poster) said about Vorobiev in the other thread and the RSL playoffs then I doubt he comes over this year. Steen on the other hand would be a great addition, and Kronwall has been mentioned by some posters as well (Im sure Rand would be happy to see that!).

This was a shot at Mike Keenan and Florida

So I guess Carlo and Matty are not headed to Chicago to help stack the AHL team .. Thats okay with me as I like them right where they are ..

And I'll say it again too. Vorobiev's team, Lada, is tied for 2nd in the league, and the playoffs are just around the corner. It would be a big upset if Lada was ousted early, and they probably won't. After all, Lada is Russia's version of the New Jersey Devils.

Here are the Russian League standings as of today:

1. Dynamo 117 pts
2. Lada 116 pts (Vorobiev, Semenov, K. Volkov?)
3. Metallurg Mg. 113 pts
4. Ak Bars 111 pts
5. Lokomotiv 99 pts (Antropov)
6. Avangard 95 pts
7. Metallurg Nk. 90 pts
8. Neftehimik 85 pts (Kukumberg)
9. Khimik 82 pts (Ponikarovsky)

I believe these are all the players that we have in Russia..

Their regular season has 3 games left I believe, with most teams playing later on today..

The only way Lada gets eliminated early, is if they drop to 3rd in the standings and face Jagr's Avangard.. If things stay the same though, or if Lada gets to 1st, they are likely to go deep in the playoffs, and thus, no Vorobiev for us.

Steen's team, Modo, isn't long for the SEL playoffs so he may be available.

With a 5-4 loss, Modo's down 3-1 in the series.

One more and his season's over.

Do you think that there is a chance he will join the baby leafs if MODO is eliminated next game it seems like a good way to get his feet wet in NA and gives fans a little something extra to pay attention to.

If/when Modo is out, I can't think of a reason why he doesn't come over. St. John's will need the help, and he's as good an addition as the Leafs can make. They can bring him over on an AHL contract.

And though he's played every single SEL game with Modo, it'll only be up around 55 (regular season + playoffs) if Modo loses in game 5. So, he hasn't played that many games as they don't play as much as North American leagues do.

Let's hope he does, I've been dying to see Steen in North America.

i don't think he'll come over this season, and if he does he won't make much difference.

Yeah, a second line centre would be pretty damn useless.

If a centre, he'd probably play behind Welly. If they stick him on the wing, he'd line up alongside Kyle on the top line at LW.

But of course, that wouldn't make much of a difference.

you can always switch him to the wing, or have Stajan switch over to the left side, both of them can play on the left side. I think if he does come over he'll be on one of the top 2 lines.

Of course Frankie. I forgot you know absolutely everything and could not possibly be wrong in your assessment of the St. John's Maple Leafs.

He would need to be eased into the lineup, for sure, but there is still plenty of time until the playoffs start. Steen would likely be darn fine as a 3rd line centre.

In the worst possible scenario, a 3rd liner.

But realistically a top 6 forward.

I was allowing some needed time to adapt to the new ice surface, league, and game.

His adaption time shouldn't take long.

He's built to play in North America.
