B.Schenn + L. Schenn or Vanriemsdyk + Kadri?

Not intended to be a jinx thread, but thus far both Vanriemsdyk and Kadri have played relatively well in the young season. When we made the Riemsdyk trade, I wondered if not getting B.Schenn was a blessing in disguise, as it meant someone possibly overpaying for bloodlines.

Which pair would you prefer to build around?

Schenn Brothers

or

Vanriemsdyk + Kadri

No offense, but you're not going to find an objective opinion here.

That being said, JvR + Kadri

Haha, well, I'm considering throwing it on the main board, but that could cause a **** storm.

Having said that, in 3 years, we can look back on this, and praise those who actually got it right, blue and white glasses or not. So let that be a warning

I'm still on the fence, so I haven't voted yet. However I'm leaning towards Kadri and Vanriemsdyk, only because I don't see a very high ceiling in L.Schenn.

I'd say

JVR = B.Schenn
Kadri > L.Schenn

it's so tough to compare though and tbf Schenn has been quite good for Philly paired with Timonen.

I think you should attempt to get a more objective oppinion. It is a valid question.

Kadri and JVR.

Kadri is off to a brilliant start this season. And JVR has shown flashes that he can be a stud. He just hasn't put it together yet. Even if he doesn't break out and score 35 a year, I think he's a pretty safe bet to score at least 20 per season.

I loved Luke when he played with the Leafs. But there are plenty of stay at home defenseman in the league. Luke isn't much of a skater or playmaker. Probably looking at a second pairing d-man. Brayden, like Kadri hasn't had a smooth start to his career. I think he's played less than 70 total games. The difference between the 2 is that Kadri looks like a stud this season. ANd Brayden hasn't made much of an impact. Not saying he won't. Just stating what I've seen so far.

I would rather have JVR+Kadri, but your question of who I'd rather build around is the Schenn bro's.

Yea, I realized that this was another angle. I agree, in a a strong system JVR and Kadri, but maybe on a leadership starved team, then the Schenn brother might be the better choice.

You have big balls my friend, that thread is going to go downhill fast. Can't wait for the Bruins, Habs, Sens and Canuck fans to ruin the thread.

Kadri. 89
Young Schenn. 88
JVR. 85
Old Schenn. 82

i think Brayden will become a great player

It's definitely going to be a crazy one haha.. Don't forget Flyer fans who will try to downplay JVR and upsell B. Schenn.

Expect lots of:

"Kadri is a bust" (when in reality he has outproduced Schenn at the NHL level thus far)

"JVR might look good now, but he'll go invisible like he always does for a month -- maybe longer"

"Schenn is Adam Foote. I've known it ever since he was a Leaf but since he wore Blue and White I wasn't sure I knew, but now that he wears a different colour its clear!!!"

"B. Schenn is tied for the highest points scored at the WJC! Superstar in the making.. So many intangibles in stark contrast to Kadri who is a cancer in the lockerroom!!!"

I'm going to be lurking that thread throwing my best opposition arguments.. It's always fun fighting a crowd

I went JvR + Kadri.

Because I think Kadri is going to be the best player of all 4 players in this discussion.

Is this even a question? I bet if you asked this on the Philly board though they'd obviously say the Schenn brothers. But I can honestly say without bias that JVR and Kadri will have better careers than the Schenns. They are overrated as hell.

Wow, a tricky one but after some thought put in to it (10 seconds) I decided that the skill set Kadri brings and also JVR is much harder to find who actually make it in the NHL. With the Schenn brothers you probably have two future captains who can develop in to shut down guys with some offensive output (at least from BS who I imagine will develop in to a very good 2-way center), ideal to have on a playoff team. But with the hands and vision of Kadri and if JVR only lives up to part of his early hype they can be game changers.

But the thought of having BS and NK as your two first centers is mouth watering. A bit like having light versions of Sakic and Forsberg.

I wonder what it would take to get the brothers out of Philly?

I'd rather have JvR and Kadri tbh. Kadri's showing a lot of promise this year, I'm really surprised.

I think Kadri and B. Schenn were a wash up until this season, but I always placed higher value on JVR than L. Schenn owing to his skillset and potential, so even excluding this season to date I'd have gone with Kadri + JVR. Probably B. Schenn + JVR before the swap tho.
