Hockey Central declared today that last nights game was the night Reimer became "Toronto's goalie"

That and probably the millions of #34 Jersey sales didn't hurt.

Fans chose Reimer a long time ago.

What happens if he gives up 5 goals in his next game? Do they take that back?

Either way, he's been Toronto's goalie for a while even amidst of the absurd Loungo and Kipper rumours. He is also doing it while having a whopping 1.8M cap hit. He is super cheap and productive and now Leafs can go use that cap hit that would be required to pay a starter (5-6M) and allocate it elsewhere, such as the gaping hole(s) on defense.

Hell of a season for Reimer who is proving his .921 save % in 2011 was no fluke. Even if you include his concussion riddled season in 2012, he now has 99 GP and a .915 save %. That's not elite or anything but that's good and a legit starter save %. Loungo for example, has a .919 save % over his career.

Reimer has also managed to put up great numbers playing in front of a bad defense. He is still very young for a goalie and there is certainly even more room to grow.

I thought he was our MVP before he went down earlier this season and for me, he's been Leafs 2nd best player this season after Dion. Nice to see him finally get some credit like he should and hopefully his play puts all the Loungo rumors to rest.

Any chance Leafs still go after Luongo if Reimer tanks in the playoffs?
Bridges are probably burnt between the two franchises...

I would hope to god Nonis has the brains to realize how bad of a move that is.

Young goalie struggling in playoffs after finally dominating a full season? GET A VETERAN WITH AN ALBATOSS CONTACT.

Well..Reimer won't be super cheap for long.

I'm going to guess he gets about ~4.5M on his next contract. Still well below a lot of goalies though.

Also, Martin Brodeur lost his first three playoff games, Lou did not look for another goalie in the offseason.

Look at Carey Price's early years in the playoffs.

I think Reimer has demonstrated that he has the skill and more importantly the mental toughness necessary to play in the Toronto marketplace. Baring an injury wildcard, the Leafs are now set in goal with their dynamic pair. Unfortunately for Luongo, he is saddled with a sucky contract that more than negates any value as an NHL level goalie and this value is diminishing with time as he is now 34 years old. Clearly Vancouver wants to rid themselves of this albatross of a contract and any team needing a goalie should/would at least "kick the tires". However Toronto is not very likely to be one of those teams.

Reimer for the win

Reimer's record over the last 3 years (i.e. his entire NHL career):
51-29-14
Pace of 101.2 pts per 82 games (6th best in the east in 2011/12, 6th best in the east in 2010/11, 3rd best in the east in 09/10)

Leaf's record in games where where the win/loss/OTL wasn't credited to Reimer:
45-56-12
Pace of 74.0 pts per 82 games (15th in the east in 11/12, 13th in the east in 10/11, tied for 15th in the east in 09/10)

Over the last 3 seasons (Reimer's entire NHL career), we've put up points like a 3rd-6th seed with Reimer in net, and a 13th-15th seed without Reimer in net. If you look at just this year, the difference has been even more pronounced:

Reimer: 17-5-5 (118.0 pts per 82 games, i.e best in the league pretty much any year)
Not Reimer: 7-10-0 (67.5 pts per 82 games, i.e worst or 2nd worst in the league most years)

Just thought I'd share these numbers as I found them pretty shocking/surprising, it's crazy how much better we are with Reimer in the net than with him out of the net!

Very true.

Reimer is much better than Scrivens (and anyone else we have had the last couple years)

I'm all for acquiring a veteran backup, one that knows he won't be getting the starter job so no Luongo please. Reimer's already proven that his rookie season wasn't a fluke, so we really don't need a #1 anymore.

Not taking anything away from Reimer, but did he ever play a full NHL season without getting injuried? We need a reliable backup

In fact throughout Reimers career including his juniors he spent lots of time on injured list. Dont believe is bad luck. Might be his playing style?

Exactly what Nonis was trying to accomplish before the deadline.

I was at the Devils game, sat 5 rows right behind Reimer...he was exceptional. Couldn't believe the saves he was making. 19,000 people chanting Reimer gave me goosebumps. On a side note, Bozak checked out my GF at least 3 times and I wasn't sure whether I should laugh or be mad lol.
