I don't get it. You're saying "lol" because people aren't picking Karlsson over Stamkos, but YOU said "I take Stamkos."

Stamkos

Eberle and Karlsson will get taken higher now than they were back then

It's Stamkos for #1. Just the way it is, a center who scores 60 goals is simply more valuable than virtually any defenseman.

All that means though is that it's a consensus that Stamkos is the #1 choice, not that there is a massive gap between the two. A lot of users on this forum seem to make the mistake in thinking that a consensus is indicative of two options not being close but really the vote only means you think Stamkos is #1. A 'Stamkos AINECTBC' vote is worth just as much as a 'Stamkos by a hair' vote.

Having said that, it really isn't close.

Why?

Because Tampa is just so awesome right?

What does that have to do with how good Stamkos is and how valuable he is?

Erik Karlsson, no homo no homer. Ever so slightly over Stamkos.

Both are interesting. I didn't bother to look at the results. Karlsson's ahead of Pietro 13-3, significant, but small sample.

If he's ''more valuable than any defenseman'', then how come his team has seen no success? They were awful in his 60 goal season.

When was the last time a Norris Trophy winner's team missed the playoffs? When was the last time a Norris finalist's team missed the playoffs?

Scoring 60 goals doesn't automatically make him a better two-way player.

If you have a Norris winner on your team, you're pretty much guaranteed to be good. Because that's half the game your team dominates right there when he's on the ice.

I would take Stamkos but its not as easy a choice as some are making it sound like IMO...AP/Karlsson/Doughty are very very close IMO.

Why because people consider him a better player then Doughty? How much of him have you actually watched?

AP/Doughty/Karlsson all deserve to be in the same discussion...I personally have it Karlsson, AP and then Doughty which a lot of people do. Here comes the Doughty was a norris nominee and Karlsson won it, what has AP accomplished...

I wonder in 3 years how much people will change their minds on who they pick.

The Dmen could change but I think it will still be Stamkos...

Except Ottawa isnt good. They barely got into the playoffs, which makes them very average.

Stamkos has seen more Playoff succes than karlsson. Not that it mattered in comparing individual players, anyway.

That being said... Seriously, the dude that's won 2 Rockets in the last 3 years and finished 2nd place the other time. The dude that has 11 points in 6 games this year. The Hart nominee. The dude that's scored the most goals in the league since he's come in. Not even remotely close to being close.
What about the guy that led all d-men in scoring by 47% and being the youngest to win the Norris since Bobby Orr? A guy that plays almost 30 minutes a night impacting the game everywhere and playing in all situations. Karlsson is the most dynamic and impactful player in the NHL right now that isn't a goalie.

Stamkos is a great producer, but he doesn't have the same on-ice effect that Karlsson does. Karlsson completely controls the opposing team. Stamkos is one of the best offensive players in the game, but he just doesn't have the same presence.

''The Puppet Master'' is my new nickname for Karlsson.
