Not going to freak out, but damn does that suck for our depth and for Charlotte.

Off to Pittsburgh.

It sucks for Charlotte, but in the case of injuries, at least it gives other players a chance to show what they can do.

Claimed by the Pens

Good news is if they try to send him to the AHL we can snag him before anyone else and send him down without having to waive him again.

LOL, I'd crack up if his first shot is on that Maklin-Neal wing that no one's been able to fully claim yet. Awesome.

He's going to score 50 points on Crosby's wing.

"DAMMIT, WHY DIDN"T WE PLAY HIM RARRHGHG!!11?"

That's a shame though. A real damn shame. I wonder what he looked like in practice to deserve being benched.

Brandon Sutter will be happy though.

Yeah, that's giong to be a fun future conversation:

"Boychuk's putting up all these points! Why didn't we keep him?!"
"Playing next to two of the best players in the league..."

Good for him. I'm quickly becoming a secondary pens fan. I hope he shows he was the real deal all along.

Penguins are at the 23 man roster limit now with Boychuk claimed and Niskanen on IR. When Niskanen comes back someone has to be sent down and if he doesn't make an impact before that it'll be Boychuk. Canes should have the first choice of picking him up on the waivers if he is sent down.

You know, I almost posted last night that the Pens make sense as they don't have a lot of top 6 depth on the wing and there are multiple discussions about it. If he gets a chance, I could see Boychuk doing well there and I hope he does.

It's getting hard for me to dislike the Pens with Sutter, Dumoulin and now Boychuk there.

Small guy, fairly skilled, but doesn't play an NHL style game very well. He needs to learn to read and react to plays better, because he doesn't have the raw physical attributes to offset an average hockey sense. He's been a passenger in his limited play so far.

Upside? He could be a viable middle-6 playmaking winger if he gets it together.

But by the same token, Boychuk is going to get top 6 time (maybe not PP time, but top 6) with one of Malkin-Neal or Crosby, the two best forwards in the world.

If he doesn't produce with them, at the age where production wise, most forwards peak, then is there really any chance that he will make an impact with us?

I'd suggest that Boychuk save his jersey, I don't think he lasts long in the 'Burgh.

Put me in the "JR knew he'd be claimed, and was counting on that" camp.

Pens use him til their injury woes diminish, then waive him, then JR claims him and sends him down.

Well he's still a good AHL player

Any bets on whether Boychuk makes the Hurricanes sorry for waiving him on Feb 28?

My bet: he doesn't play in that game.

Damn, so close to having him cleared.

This is really going to suck for the Checkers.

Maybe this can open up a conversation with the Pens for Despres.

That'd be nice, they need to send SOMEONE down when Niskanen gets back, makes sense that it'd be a D. I'd love to get Despres here if possible.
