The first overall pick

You watch. We will finish as the worst team in the league and lose the lottery for the 1st overall pick.

This team is cursed.

I would be fine with the 2nd or 3rd pick. One of Drouin/Jones/MacKinnon will be there. With ROR gone and Stazz on the outs, we will need another center as bad as we need another defenseman. It really depends on what we get in return for our guys.

How is getting 1st overall cursed? Being cursed is finishing with 12 points and having the Oilers win it with 65 points.

No, cursed would have been having their pick be that high last year. This year it'd be awesome to have the 2nd pick. I'd be thrilled to be anywhere in the top 5 really.

He's saying we finish last and lose the lottery. Thus, we get 2nd overall, even though we finish last. A curse.

Agreed, given the talent in that Top 5 and the fact that its a 48 game season, I'd be thrilled to add one of Mackinnon/Drouin/Jones/Barkov/Lindholm to this team.

Our core next year could be:

Landy
Duchene
EJ
Varly
Stastny(Without Oreilly he's in the core)
Drouin(For ex).

That's 4 real good forwards, a good D and a good forward, solid core for next year with some good supporting pieces. Not to mention whatever nice piece we'll get for ROR.

I can't see being guaranteed one of Jones or Mackinnon as a curse, but that's just me.

This team is cursed.
Because drafting the remaining player between Jones and McKinnon would be unbarable.

My mistake. I thought he was implying that getting the 1st overall is cursed.

This team NEEDS the 1st overall pick this year, and we need that pick to become an elite player. I'm leaning towards Mackinnon, simply because the Avs have the worst luck ever in drafting defensemen. I'd rather trade Stastny, ROR, or both for defensive help.

-Get as much as we can for ROR and Stastny
- Fire Sacco at the end of the season
- Draft Mackinnon
- Sign another key free agent winger
- Get everyone healthy over the summer
- Come back next season with a mission to make the playoffs

I'm hoping we get the 3rd pick. I don't want a dman (Seth Jones).

As the ball is being selected, the dude's elbow will hit a random referee walking by for no reason, drop our ball, and pick up Edmonton's.

Assuming we land a high pick, with all the good centres in the top-5 of this draft, we need to trade Stastny. He could fetch at least a 1st round pick to a contender, it's better than having him not give a s**t out there every night.

Hell, sign Bozak to be our #2 C in the offseason, at least he tries.

I don't even want the #1 pick. Decision would be too hard. Prefer 2 or 3 so that way it can be made for us ala Matty Duchene.

My ideal draft is we get #2, they draft Mackinnon and we get Jones. Being #1 would just have so many people comparing him to EJ, all that pressure of being the #1 overall, etc.

Drouin-Duchene-PA
Lando-Stats-Jones
McGinn-Sgarbossa-Downie
McLeod-Malkin-Palushaj

I could live with that top six?

Get rid of Succo. That is a must. Then as for the lineup;Jones is the only fringe forward in the top six, would like to get a better winger who may actually score...but him and Stats had clicked before, maybe a little heart injected into that line by Lando could go a long way? Places McGinn and Downie back in proper 3rd line roles. Also allows Sgarbossa some capable wingers to play with. Finally it places Johnny Malkin in a more suitable 4th line role. McLeod is still there to rough some people up and keep teams honest. Palushaj could provide some decent offense with Johnny M on the fourth line, not like we are looking for anymore than 15+ points each, maybe 20?

Trade ROR for maybe a draft pick and a capable top 4 d-man. We need more depth at D, that is a must but wont be fixed by next year nor likely the year after. Hopefully add a few pieces here and there while our offense flourishes under a new coach...ok maybe that last statement is a little too optimistic..they still need to fire Sacco first

I want Drouin, he really impressed me in the WJ on a very shaky Team Canada. I think he out shined MacKinnon in that tourny.

But hey, I won't complain if we end up with Jones or MacKinnon

I must admit, I'm not convinced from that video. Some of those highlight reel goals don't look like they'd happen in the NHL and he kinda hunches over a little and has his head down (at times in that video) when skating, I think he'd be a prime candidate for a concussion, especially given the Avs' luck (or lack thereof.)
