For the millionth time: RFA versus UFA.

Yes. What I wanted to say - Jones is not worth 4 mio and why should ROR accept less than him? Dont know how this has something to do with UFA and RFA when you overpay a player.

It's amazing that people still don't understand this. Let alone as a 21 year old first time RFA.

Because you often have to overpay UFA -- they're free to walk and sign wherever they choose. RFA aren't as free (they're "restricted"), and are limited to what kind of deals they can demand. They still get overpaid at times, but not usually to the point that ROR wants overpaid.

Yes, and like it or not right now because he's not scoring, but David Jones was a $4M player as a UFA. In fact, some though he could have got more at the time.

Personally, I don't have a problem paying 4M to a 20 goal scorer, even if he is streaky as can be (especially if I'm paying with Other People's Money ).

If he's not signed within the next 5 games and we're still in the bottom 5 of the league we shouldn't bother signing him this season and burning a year of his contract while struggling to contend for the playoffs.

I disagree here. I rather gave him 2.5 or 3.

If he was offered 2.5 or 3 from the Avs, he'd be playing somewhere else and Chuck Kobasew would be in his spot.

It's funny that if/when Sherman tries to shop ROR and he's trying to sell him as a great player he's probably going to use the same points that ROR is using trying to get a bigger contract

"He's one of the best defensive forwards in the last 25 years!" - Sherman

Stop being so hypocritical Sherm. You need to suck it up and sign him already. Everyone knows Duchene took a discount, that doesn't mean O'Reilly has to.

And you can stop hiding behind that picture of Dater... it's fooling no one.

UFA can shop around and play teams against one another. the leverage they have is almost insane. a RFA is somewhat at the mercy of their team unless they're a bonafide superstar.

ROR is not a superstar, he's had statistically one good season out of three.
he has no leverage and never did. he should have shut his agent down and said we'll get them next time. but instead he let him drag it out and now he's still not going to get the contract he wants and puts himself in a worse position to gain leverage in the future.
he's missed a chunk of the season and he's now injured which will cost him further development.

he has potentially cost himself millions and he'll end up signing the same damn deal he scoffed at before.

О'Рейли should fire his agent. ASAP!

We're going to go from having some of the best center depth in the league to having Duchene and a bunch of question marks in a year or so. Sherman was so happy about building through the middle and being set at center for a long time to come. I believe he even brought up Sakic/Forsberg and mentioned how important it is to have players like Stastny, Duchene, and O'Reilly going foward. Now they're going to **** it all up.

Yea with a .96 PPG average over his first three seasons, and a different GM after Kopitar signed a very similar deal.

Way different than O'Reilly and his .45 PPG average under Sherman.

Stastny put up 185 points in 193 games under his ELC. He's closer to a Hall/Eberle/Seguin than an O'Reilly.

His situation makes Mueller's recovery seem like a quick and painless one. Poor guy. Dater said he still isn't cleared for contact.

However, I do like what I see from Sgarbossa....

I remember those numbers. Really would like him to get back to that form.

If Avs are offering only $3.4M/year for a five year deal, that's insulting. If the guy is giving up UFA years, you don't get a discount. If that is part of the take it or leave it, and O'Reilly has a preference for a longer deal, then Sherman is handling this whole thing poorly. If there is no wiggle room on Avs part on a longer deal, I think Avs are letting their fixation on short term deals screw over the team in a big way. You'll never convince me that a 5 year $20M or a 7 year $30M deal for O'Reilly will be a bad one.

I don't have any problem with the two year, $7M offer. That's generous and I have no problem with a take it or leave it stance with that one.

Considering hes on the 3rd line with Mcleod and plays the point on the second unit I agree. Hes got some pretty good puck poise but we dont need that in our top 6 at all.
