Crazy thought here. Apparently Maloney and Tippet's deals expire after this season, and there's a pretty good chance the team could end up in Quebec next year. In which case, you know who could end up as GM/Coach.
What if Sherman and PL have already talked with Roy about an O'Reilly for Yandle swap, and that's what Sherman is waiting for? He's holding out for Yandle, and tanking the season, because Maloney is asking for too much, and there's no one else out there for Sherm to get.

I think there is a better chance GoDaddy calls me up and asks me to be in their next commercial with Bar Rafaeli.
Ryan O'Reilly is one of the 10 best centers on the planet?
Reading that article makes me sad.
What a ridiculous picture.
This guy's a tool. He thinks all the Avalanche fans that follow the team and know O'Reilly are wrong to think he's not worth $5M, and he's right. Then he goes on to make the same classic mistake of comparing Jones and PAP's deal to O'Reilly. Then says Duchene was never better than O'Reilly is now, ignoring the 67 point season he had while O'Reilly was piling up 26 for the second straight season. Oh at least not at both ends of the ice he says. I must be following a different league instead of the one where defense pays more than offense, and Duchene hasn't been filling in nicely in a more defensive role.
How do people lacking analytical skills get jobs writing and analyzing hockey? I don't get it. Their job is to inform the uninformed, and they are giving bad information.

There is a chance that they are waiting on O'Reilly to be given a clean bill of health before trading him. Phoenix was trying to acquire a young forward at the beginning of the season as well, and that is rumored to be exactly what they want for Yandle.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Yandle, even if it costs us Sgarbossa along with O'Reilly. Yandle and EJ would be fun to watch as a pairing on the Avs and team USA for a very long time.
Both are less than 2 years apart in age as well. Yandle will be 27 in September and EJ 25 in March. I also think Yandle needs a change, he can't be happy about being subbplanted by OEL. He obviously has not fallen that far off but all the trade rumors and being replaced on the top pair can't exactly be a motivational factor. I also think behind OEL, Yandle was phenominal in last years playoff run for Phoenix. 9 points and a +5 in 16 games...
Those of you still clinging onto the point totals argument are just being silly. His importance to this team cannot be understated.
"Sour grapes crowd"? Look at my previous posts in this thread and every other thread where O'Reilly is mentioned. I'm far from that. I ***** and complain about management every day because they won't pay O'Reilly. I'm not a part of the group that thinks he should be traded ASAP because he's arrogant or selfish.
However, he is NOT a top 10 center. He's one of my favourite players but that's ridiculous.

IMO, just pay the man. $4 - 4.5M per is probably good enough to get a deal done, and quite frankly, squabbling over $600K - $1M per with the cap space this franchise has is in a word, stupid.

I doubt it. At least if it's long-term.
Any short term deal of over 3.5 would be almost as harmful for the organization in the long-run.

Agreed. I think $5M is too much and they shouldn't pay him that but if he accepts $4-4.5M, just do it.

No it wouldn't be. This isn't a max contract we're talking about. If Sherman's half the bean counter he wants everyone to think he is, he'll find a way not to get into huge cap trouble.
The teams you see in big cap trouble are the ones who keep throwing money around every year like drunken frat boys at the strip club. The Avs have never, ever done this, so I don't see them getting into huge cap trouble because they chose to pay Ryan O'Reilly $1-1.5 million more than they'd like to.

So you want to give future RFA's precedent to use as leverage to raise all 2nd contracts? No thanks from me. His 2 year offer is generous already for only one breakout year.
