Not to mention the fact he was able to contain a real speedster in Grabner stride for stride. THAT I found really impressive.

In my opinion, I would not consider trading Larsson for anything... at all. Especially not when he's just beginning to really develop and when he's shown flashes of absolute brilliance. We trade him and it will come back to bite us... hard.
In one of the Albany videos (I think) Larsson mentioned that skating strength and speed were one of his main focuses in the off-season. It definitely looks like it paid off.

@TGfireandice: The Devils will honor longtime goaltending coach Jacques Caron prior to their Saturday, March 16 home game vs. Montreal.

@TGfireandice: Although there's been no official announcement yet, the Devils are expected to wear their retro jerseys on March 16 as well.

Matteau was getting lonely being the only Stefan in the system.

Do you know who is tied for third in scoring on the Devils with Kovalchuk?

Know absolutely nothing about Stepanov. However, he's been getting time in the KHL since he's 18-19, so this seems like a worthwhile gamble.

He was apparently a highly touted prospect in North America (at least for the draft, etc.) until he allegedly pulled a knife on a teammate in Sudbury. Look him up on the hfboards, that's where I heard that from. Second one kind of proves the knife incident.

Don't **** with Russians, that's all I have to say. Maybe that's why Lou doesn't want to move Volchenkov and gave a lifetime contract to Kovy

Edit: Zharkov is probably half Russian, that's why Lou isn't scared to send his ass down to Albany.

He brings that pure offensive puckmover we lack on the team (aside from Zidlicky) and in our prospect pool (aside from maybe Scarlett).

Ilya Kovalchuk among the nine players taking part in Devils' optional.

Good. Just shoot like 500 pucks today Kovy

Kovy Continued
Rich Chere ‏@Ledger_NJDevils
Pete DeBoer on slumping Kovy: "I'm not worried about Kovy... The goals will come."

Rich Chere ‏@Ledger_NJDevils
DeBoer: "He takes a lot of personal pressure for us to win and for him to score."

Tom Gulitti ‏@TGfireandice
DeBoer said he's "not worried" about Kovalchuk's point/goal production. "Kovy is doing a lot of little things that are helping us win games"

Marek Zidlicky's ice time the last four games: 23:18, 18:26, 16:30, 13:19 (h/t @DobberHockey). DeBoer clearly not a fan of the penalties.

That's an unbelievably sick lineup (minus the goaltending tandem) assuming Boucher can take his game to the next level, though I have to wonder if Elias might retire soon...

Hence the whiffs and the frustration in his game. I wish had gotten that EN last night to shake the slump off.
Maybe he needs a set of fresh legs on his line to get him going.

With a little more seasoning, I'd like to see Butler get a handful of shifts with Zajac & Kovy. Need to see more before I go too far with that.
I like how eager he is to get on the puck once he gets into the attack zone.

I'm not sure what the deal with ice time is...

Bernier last 5 games: 16:06, 13:45, 12:44, 12:15, 10:35

Josefson: last 5 14:20, 15:06, 12:43, 12:16, 11:08

Zubrus: last 5 19:36, 18:37, 18:36, 16:12, 15:58

So while the penalties might be contributing to Zids decreasing ice time... these guys also are having that problem. Not to mention these three players cover three different offensive lines. I think part of the problem is the amount of penalties the Devils are taking.

I'm happy people are starting to appreciate Butler. I think he's going to stick around. Maybe if Butler sticks and Lou can finally pull the trigger on a trade... and Henrique is healthy enough to take 2-3 more minutes per game then all this will finally even out.

The penalty yesterday after the Hagelin save wasn't his fault. Zid made a nice rush down low and nobody backed him up. He had to rush back to try and cover Hagelin. Luckily Marty made an amazing save.
