I was "asked" (read: MADE) by mom to clean out the "crap" in the basement before it gets tossed.
I came across something which cracked me up -- and remember like it was yesterday..
Back in the day, you used to be able to buy a program at the game!?!?! Imagine that!!!!! I think it was like $4/ $5 or something, and always had on a player from the visiting team on the cover. I saved my money (I was 16) so I could get one.. Naturally, I would have to keep score too....
Also got a Media Guide from time to time..
Most of these magazines are memorable for two main reasons. Damn, these Isles teams were so %^#%@ good. We were spoiled. The other reason is how funny some of the advertisements look now.....
Man, the scary thing is, I had those media guides too, probably threw them all out. Always bought a yearbook and media guide every year since my first Islander's game in 1979. I actually had the Islander's Christmas Record, wonder if any of you remember that one.
I myself am a huge collector. I have media guides from the 1991-92 season through 2003-04. Pocket schedules from 1989-90 through the mid 90's. Quite a few year books. A few hundred Isles hockey cards. And my prized possession, a pretty large number of Isles games on DVD from the late 80's, early 90's, 2002 playoffs, etc.
