Is it a bad thing that I would watch this if it is real?

Remember watching this series as a kid. Loved DBZ.

Oh, my good goodness gracious! Of all the dramatic things I've ever seen. Goku standing right in a Youtube video, announcing he is back.

There's nothing to substantiate this rumor right now, so I wouldn't get your hopes up.

Pretty much. That's about all I'm finding about it. I figured there would be no new series.

I would love nothing more than a new series with Goku being the center of attention again. First anime I got into was DB when it came out and we had some great times.

I lived in Japan in 1992 for a year. This show was all the rage. I remember getting the original books/graphic novels which were in black and white. The art work on the spines of each book come together to form a beautiful picture of a dragon with Goku running on its neck. There was something like 10 or 20 books, can't remember exactly. I still have them burried away somewhere... One of the coolest, best series of animation I've seen.

Loved the show but it's time for that to end. If anything they could do another movie (although not live action)... I dunno, havent watched the show or payed attention to anything DBZ related in ages but I'd probably see an anime movie if they made one, I mean a new one.

Is this movie about where they left off after Z or after GT? Actually, is GT considered canon?

It's going to be a movie depicting the events following the original Dragon Ball Z manga/anime and Son Goku's training of Uub. What's cool about this project is the fact that Akira Toriyama is involved with the story and entire creative process. And no, I don't consider GT canon and neither should anybody else. It doesn't follow a Toriyama manga and he was barely involved with the creative process. All he did was contribute character designs.

Maybe they're extending Kai to cover the Buu saga as well?

They confirmed a new movie some time ago, but it's hardly unprecedented. They have released two canonical specials in the last few years.

You can watch them here:

The time for the show to end was 16 years ago, when they wrapped the last season in Japan. Since then, the only canonical entries were OVA's and the online game which takes place hundreds of years later.

The canon of the series, IIRC, is comprised of DB, DBZ, History of Trunks, Bardock: Father of Goku, The Dead Zone, Dragon Ball Online and some companion works. Everything else, be it any of the films, GT or whatever is non-cannon.

So this is basically a revisit after a long break. Certainly not something that will not die.

Agreed, GT was crap. And I'm glad Toriyama is in on this, it's nice to know. I don't think there will ever be another DBZ series, at least not one made by Toriyama that's for sure. I remember reading that he got sick of DBZ and only did it because the fans demanded it, the show/manga was originally supposed to end after Cell was defeated, but then he brought in the Buu arc due to popularity.

The show was awesome though, I still watch old clips from time to time just cause of how great it was. I loved the music in the American version too.
