While he does get a lot of offensive zone starts he faces the 2nd highest QoC on La and faces better Qoc than Brodie or Wideman. He probably does have limited upside but given how soft our top 4 defense is he is perfect, he is a big physical #4 defenseman and will be for a long time.

I'd prefer Toffoli and Forbort. A Couturier deal would be my #1 choice though.

I didn't want to start a new thread, but if we have a terrible road trip and management comes out saying "we are sellers," who do you think will be the first Flame traded?

I personally think Jay Bow will be the first to go... I think he ends up in Detroit before the deadline. Others?

I don't see Jbo being traded due to a mix of his cap hit and the fact that the last few years could hurt his value. First to go would be Gio or Stempniak.

Stempniak. Hes an easy sell and I feel a couple teams would bite for a 2nd, and maybe if he is packaged with a guy like Nemisz a team could cough up a 1st. Very easy trade for Calgary.

Then I think we see Iginla moved, possibly in a trade with Stempniak actually.

I know you guys are going to lynch me for this but what do you think of something around Ballard for Babchuck?

Ballard has played like a top 4 defenseman this year but is in AV's dog house and can't get out, Babchuck well sucks but is a right handed PP specialist which Van could use.

I wouldn't for the fact that we aren't a playoff team. If we were then I would say yes but we would have to add

If* we have cap space I actually don't hate it. How long is left on his deal?

I doubt it most just want to get something for Ballard and they need a pp specialist that is RH.

2 years 4.2 per year, we have the cap space, it would give us 13 million to sign Brodie,Backlund,Iginla(if he is here), and a backup goalie.

Why would we lynch you, that would be a steal for us, getting a good d-man who also probably would hold a grudge against Vancouver. Of course it might still be a bad move if we throw away futures to close and he turns out to be a waste of (cap)space but the foundation is solid. I highly doubt they'd bite though.

I'd be surprised if we could get Ballard for Babchuck, even with Ballard's contract. Babchuck has very little (if any) value

Kings fan dropping in. Muzzin has been paired with Doughty for the last 15+ games on the number 1 unit and has been doing pretty good. With Muzzin's recent play (given he plays LAs big mans game and scoring ), I do not see Muzzin being traded for a rental. I hope DL targets Iginla, but DL is a little picky when he trades big pieces of the future. He usually likes them younger than Iginla and with atleast 2 years+ on their contracts, that is why i won't get my hopes up too high on Iginla.

Well good luck on the rebuilding. They suck when your going through them, but when done right, they are worth it.

Yea I think we would have to add but giving them 4.2 million in cap space next year could be attractive for them.

Ballard barely plays and is so far in AV's doghouse that I don't think he can even remember what's it like to be a regular contributor. On that basis, Ballard's value is pretty much non-existent. Moreover, the Nucks are going to be in tight against the cap next season and pretty much have to move his contract.

In trading Ballard for Babchuk, they'd be looking strictly at the 4.2M in cap space they get for next season. The fact that the Flames would be the ones taking on the salary and term of an under-performing player in this scenario suggests the Nucks should be adding, not the Flames. It'd essentially be a reverse of the Booth trade - the Nucks traded soon to be UFA's Samuelsson and Sturm for Booth, Reinprecht and a 3rd round pick. The Panthers had to give up the extra pick because of Booth's contract.

I'd do it if one or both of Giordano and Bouwmeester were traded, and the Flames sold other pieces as well, so Ballard's salary isn't a problem next season.

If its a piece we can live without like..Nemisz or something, I still think its an attractive deal. Maybe they throw back a late pick for balance.

Get Ballard for scraps and trade Gio for assets. I bet Ballard would be more useful for us than Giordano has been this season.

This was basically my thought process, with guys like Wiess,Roy,Perry etc in UFA Van may be looking to move salary for the offseason, Babchuck should help there pp and saves them a ton of cash. We get a guy that can give us some solid minutes and allows us to move Gio for something to help the future.

Still cant see them doing it. Would be amazing though.

Bouwmeester - Yandle
Wideman - Giordano
Brodie - Butler

Most excellent.

Maloney would be crucified for that deal, except there's still noone in Phoenix that cares about hockey. Sure would be nice though.

Not straight up but it could be a good base.
