Kippi is a rental whose GAA is 3.52. Scrivens is a young goaltender who has dominated the AHL and is attempting to make the transition to the NHL. He fits a need in Calgary.
Its fair to assume Kippi is worth more than scrivens in a trade but kippi for scrivens straight up is no where close to comeau for lupul straight up.

yes, even a mid round draft pick is good enough

it's obvious this team doesnt need Kipper and Kipper already quit on them...

Most important question in this thread:
Who the ****'s Kippi? Toronto fans already making things seem less cool.

Knowing Calgary; I predict the deal:

Calgary gets a second and Tony Cameranesi for Kipper.
Fits the Calgary model. NCAA guy, Tiny, low chance of a high impact in the NHL.
We need more of these guys.

I doubt we sit by with this cap space so this is a quick team a threw together. I think Sven starts the year in the AHL and when he is ready to come up 1 of Ryder or Cammy is moved.

Jiri Hudler ($4.000m) / Mikael Backlund ($2.5m) / Roman Cervenka ($2.5m)
Mike Cammalleri ($6.000m) / Stephen Weiss ($5.0m) / Nathan Horton ($4.500m)
Michael Ryder ($4.250m) / Matt Stajan ($3.500m) / Curtis Glencross ($2.550m)
Tim Jackman ($0.613m) / Lance Bouma ($0.8m) / Brian McGrattan ($0.600m)
Akim Aliu ($0.730m)

DEFENSEMEN
Dennis Wideman ($5.250m) / Mark Giordano ($4.020m)
Chris Butler ($1.200m) / T.J. Brodie ($2.5m)
Douglas Murray ($2.500m) / Christopher Breen ($0.8m)
Derek Smith ($0.775m)

GOALTENDERS
Kari Ramo ($2.500m)
Reto Berra ($2.000m)

No thank you.
I'd rather flop another year and enjoy a bountiful year when Cap's worth using. The only player I'd like in Calgary in this years crop is Horton. If you draft Mackinnon, him and Sven are on the smaller side, need someone with skill but size as well.
If you get a few wins and draft Sasa Barkov; him and Nathan Horton would be beast mode together with their size.

I seriously doubt the owners are willing to suck for a few years, they now have the cap space to do a full 'retool' and I think that is what they are going to do.

That roster would still be good for bottom five in the league unless Ramo turned out to be a top ten goalie.

I hope they don't "retool" in a single summer ROFL.
UFA's not the way to go to rebuild. It's so rare you get anything of major impact.

Take a look at the top 4 teams.
Pitts: What UFA's did they get?
Montreal: drafted well, brought in two kids + Prusty
Chicago: Again?
Anaheim: Same deal.

I hope Calgary just doesn't spend, spend, spend. So we end up with an equally ****** team in a year lol. Suck for one extra year. Have two drafts worth of high end picks. Go forward from there; save cap for when you need it.

Never said it wouldn't but that center depth is much better and at least gives the impression that ownership and management are trying to win (unless they have thrown out their philosophy over the last decade).

Here's my dream scenario.

Calgary trades Mike Cammalleri to Columbus, for NYR's first round pick and some prospect no one has ever, or ever will hear of. Trade Lee Stempniak to Jersey, or other teams looking for scoring for a second probably. Maybe a first if they're mega desperate, but I doubt that. Trade Miikka to Toronto, for whatever; a second, a prospect, who knows with the side show we run. Trade Jackman and Sarich to whoever'll listen lol. Resign Backlund/Cervenka/Aliu/Big Ern.

Calgary finishes 2nd last, only to Florida, who drafts Seth Jones with the first overall pick. Calgary with the 2nd overall drafts Nate Mackinnon. Calgary uses St. Louis' and the Rangers pick to move up in the draft, perhaps to number 9-11; draft the best available player (hopefully Monahan, Barkov or Zadorov are available).

Calgary signs Nathan Horton to a four year, 18-20 million dollar deal.
Also have to sign a Dman, just to be competitive. Unless Zadorov is drafted, then he comes in first year style. If not, Murray's a decent target.
Get Ramo to Calgary, somehow.

Lines:

Sven - MacKinnon - Horton
Cervenka - Backlund - Hudler
Tanguay - Stajan - Glencross
McGrattan - Bouma - Aliu

Defense:

Wideman - Brodie
Giordano - Murray
Smith/Butler/AHLer (If Breen's finally ready, or that guy we got from St. Louis, Lamb.. any of them).

Goalies:
Ramo
The Swiss guy

Team won't win a helluva lot of game, probably will be in the running for a lowbie pick again, however, cap should only be 48-50 million. Gives a ton of wiggle room. Then add/sub as you keep going.

According to a lot of people on Twitter these could be some trades..

To Ottawa:
Glencross

To Calgary:
Bishop (G)
1st Round Pick
----------------------
To Columbus:
Cammy

To Calgary:
1st Round Pick
----------------------

How awesome would it be if we got 5 first round picks! Imagine all the great college superstars we could draft in the first round!

Think that would be a good plan for you guys right up until the Horton part.

You would be dissappointed in Horton, he's been invisible on the Bruins.

Let one of the small market American teams throw a ridiculous contract at him, and do the rebuild proper. Wish the Leafs had this chance a few years back.

are these "people" legit insiders or just the average clown with a twitter account?

I can see the 2nd trade, but the Flames got Berra yesterday, so I do not expect the Flames to pick up another goaltender.

Is there any possible way we could finagle a 1st for Kipper? Any team that would pay it? It'd be a situation similar to Iginla's where there's no guarantee he'll resign, but he'd be a big help in a playoff run (backup or starter).

Doubt it. As mentioned previously, the Flames tried to get the Leafs first for Kipper but were told no. And LeBrun tweeted that the Wings refused to include their first rounder for Bouwmeester. First round picks are evidently very valuable this year.

I really hope this draft's as deep as everyone's saying it will be.
If it's similar to an 03 draft, Wouldn't mind getting someone like Zach Parise or Getzlaf with the Blues pick and someone like Ryan Kessler, Mike Richards or Corey Perry with the Pens pick lol.

Hopeful thinking a bit much?

Elliotte Freidman's 30 thoughts:

Quote:
4. Around the same time Calgary asked Jarome Iginla for teams he'd be willing to be traded to, the Flames made the same request of Bouwmeester. Apparently, his list had a few more teams and St. Louis was "very high on it," according to one source. He is happy to go there.

5. The Flames are not done. They will discuss anyone not named Sven Baertschi. They have told pursuers they prefer to keep Mark Giordano and Curtis Glencross, although teams are asking about them, so you never know. The New York Rangers and Ottawa Senators, in particular, are believed to be big Glencross fans. Sooner or later, maybe Calgary gets an offer it cannot refuse.

6. Giordano and Glencross do have no-trade protection, along with several other teammates. The one thing to remember is that when a team is dismantling like this, it becomes easier to get guys to waive it for the right situation. Miikka Kiprusoff is a little different because his is more of a family issue, but the guys who don't want to go through a rebuild tend to say, "Where can I go?"

7. There's no guarantee things would be the same if Ryan O'Reilly was a Flame, but can you imagine what would be happening if the Avalanche had their pick AND Calgary's?

8. As reported on Hotstove Tonight, the Leafs already said no to trading a first-round pick for Kiprusoff. Some questioned whether their interest in him was a smokescreen, but I think it was very real. You cannot doubt his competitiveness and it is possible that, because he didn't play during the lockout and then got hurt, this is a blip rather a complete meltdown of his career. But can you take that risk in the short term? His save percentage (.868) is on pace to be the lowest for a starter since Mario Gosselin in 1987-88.

Straight up? No. Calgary would have to add something to make that a 1st.

Clearly to get all the first round picks possible.

Of course, the question you might ask is "why trade him for a goalie?"

Not a huge fan of acquiring yet another goalie, but the first would be nice. Same with the Cammy trade.

Having more than 16 percent of all first round picks this year would be unreal...
