Against NYR he was decent, but not as good as some people on this forum think.
Spezza has 51 points in 53 playoff games

He's a playoff performer even if he's had some rough ones here and there

Well, I think Anderson was a bigger reason for that win. Spezza got the goal, but can still be way better than he was that game.

Yup, the rangers were a defensive behemoth last season. Spezza did what he could, but he was smothered.

Spezza did what he could, Michalek however missed 3-4 amazing chances to score and extend or win the series.

He pissed me off so much. It was evident in that series that we need a pure skilled winger to win against those type of tough defenses. Michalek would be a really good #2 winger or amazing #3 just not number 1.

I saw Spezza at a local Kanata deli a few days ago. Poor guy looked like death warmed over. I know that doesn't mean a heck of a lot, but I have had back problems myself and know what its like. It looked like its been awhile since he's had a decent nights sleep. Hoping he comes back soon, but i'm not holding my breath.

Meh. He was pretty young and playing against one of the best shutdown units in Neidermayer, Moen, Pahlsson, Pronger and O'Donnell.

I think at this point the Sens should be looking at a long term replacement for him.

Because I don't think these back problems are going to go away.

Remember a couple years ago when zeke used pro-rated stats to say Antropov was better than Spezza?

I think you're right. It seems he may be going the same route as Eric Daze.

And James Reimer will be a legimitate candidate to represent Canada in Sochi.

And Kadri is a star #1 centre right now.

etc.

This is why no one takes zeke seriously.

Sigh. I just wish we had some kind of info or update. Not that it's really any of our business...it would just be nice.

Still hoping for Monahan in this draft. Fingers crossed.

I'd like to see Monahan too, but I think they would have to trade up to around 5 or so to get him. They have the assets to do that if there is a team that would prefer two prospects instead of one better prospect.

Can't wait for some sort of update either, I'm assuming once Karlsson is back we'll start hearing more on Spezza.

I had a nightmare in which Spezza retired due to back problems

That would be a serious setback...

Problem is all teams are always looking for a big, true #1 center...they are hard to come by and we probably have to hope that Zibby can mature into close to a #1 center and go from there.

That said, this doesn't mean Spezza is done at all even though it is disturbing to say the least.

They're clearly hiding something when it comes to Spezza.

Whether that's negative or positive, I'm not sure.

We haven't had any clear updates for awhile and there is a reason for that.

Probably because there is nothing to new to report. He is still working out, probably increasing his workload much slower than last time to avoid a setback.

The fact that they havent completely ruled him off means that he has been progressing but the fact that he hasnt skated means his progrrssion is really slow. All IMO of course

I presume he had a discectomy or a microdiscectomy?
