The Undertaker's long-time wrestling manager, Paul Bearer, identified key reasons why The Undertaker might sit out this year's WrestleMania PPV in an exclusive interview on the PWTorch Livecast last month.
"He's one my dear friends, we still stay in contact. He's very, very happy at this point in his life. He's paid his dues, he just built a new home, he just had a brand, new baby girl, he has a beautiful wife, and not to mention his other children. He has a chance to be a normal person for a change, you know," Bearer told PWTorch editor Wade Keller.
"Taker has had some unbelievable matches the last couple of years with Shawn Michaels and Hunter. When he came through the curtain after each match, there was my fat butt standing there waiting for him to give him a special brotherly hug that only we can share. He's given his body to this company, and he hurts. My gosh, he hurts. You've seen all the things he's done. He needed this time off, so if he comes back, he comes back; if he comes back, I'll be there. If he doesn't come back, I'm still going to be there."
In response to Triple H's declaration on the Slammys edition of Raw last month that "you have not seen the last of The Deadman," Bearer disagreed with the idea that Hunter confirmed Taker is wrestling at WM29.
"I took that completely differently than how the fans took it," Bearer said. "My favorite wrestler for the past 20 years has been off for a year, and he deserves time off. My God, that man has carried that company on his back for years... I just don't 100 percent agree with the fact that Hunter stated that Undertaker is returning at WrestleMania 29. Because he didn't say that."
Asked if Taker has made a decision on whether he wants to wrestle again or even would be able to, Bearer replied, "That's very, very possible." Bearer continued, "If you're asking for my opinion on whether I think that he should, my opinion is no. I don't see any reason in hell why after what he has done for this company for 20 years why he should put a 20-year Streak, or reputation, on the line for any reason at all. Why after 20 years ruin a good thing? That's just my personal opinion."
Reading this, I say, let Taker stay home and be with his family and put the title back on CM Punk at EC. Build towards Punk-Cena-Rock at WM for the WWE Championship.
Rock's schedule in February/March is limited (he's not scheduled to appear this Monday). Put the title back on Punk and have Punk & Cena carry the bulk of the build.
I think Paul was just being diplomatic. I am sure the real reason is that they suggested that Taker lose to Cena at WM and Taker was like "oh hell no, Im staying home".

"Mark, John will kick out 4 chokeslams and 7 tombstones and then will hit the AA once and end the streak."
That will be the match directly before the match with the Rock. Just imagine after overcoming ALL the odds to beat Undertaker, He then overcomes ALL the odds again moments later to win the Championship...but only after taking 7 Rock Bottoms (2 through tables) and 11 Elbows. He also delivers a baby mid match.

It's funny because it's true.

Agreed. Having a little bit of doubt is what makes a match special. Then again, I was 100% certain Rock would lose last year, so I think that's the only reason everyone enjoyed the match so much. It was a good match don't get me wrong, but it was the finish that had people talking.
It surely wouldn't be the first time Undertake has missed Wrestlemania. If he needs the year off, then go for it. I'm under the impression (nothing I've seen or read, just what I think) that Undertaker calls Hunter between Thanksgiving and Christmas to discuss what the plan is and whether he is up for it.
I think we need to have a Rock/Undertaker match at WM30. That would be incredible billing.
I wouldn't mind Undertaker taking this one off. It will mean that Bret Hart will still have a share of the most consecutive wrestlemania appearances record, which will probably just get broken by Cena in 3 years anyways.
The latest on The Undertaker's WrestleMania status is the same as it has been for several weeks - 50/50.
According to the Wrestling Observer, the belief of why Taker was in Nashville prior to Monday's Raw in Nashville was to meet face-to-face with Vince McMahon, either to discuss his physical condition or to discuss plans for Mania.
Taker has undergone major surgeries since last wrestling at WrestleMania 28 ten months ago, but the picture of Taker backstage at the NHL game in Nashville indicated that he's in better shape than in July when he made a one-off appearance for Raw 1,000.
It's possible that WWE will tip their hand at Elimination Chamber on Sunday or the night after on Raw, especially as it relates to C.M. Punk, who is rumored to face Taker at Mania and will be challenging The Rock for the WWE Title at the Chamber PPV.
Going into Sunday, WWE is trying to keep Taker's status under wraps since it affects everything - the Punk-Rock finish at the Chamber PPV, Punk's Mania match, and the expected Rock vs. John Cena headline match at Mania.
I get the impression from the article that if no Taker - main event will be Punk-Cena-Rock

Better hope no Taker then because if their setup is Rock-Cena 2, HHH-Bork 2, and Taker-Punk then there is no mystery to the event and that's just sad for something like Wrestlemania.

yeah i think its obvious it will be a triple threat if Taker cant compete.
but as you guys dont wanna see Rock/Cena again, i really dont wanna see HHH/Brock again.... i would love if they go with Brock (w/heyman) vs Punk and leave Rock vs Cena II for the title.

I think if Taker can compete, you make it Brock/Taker and still do the triple threat WWE title match. How do you set that up within a month? Don't even have HHH come out. Make it Stephanie that comes out and delivers some bad news for Heyman and Brock that they're going to pay for what they did to Daddy and they've brought someone back to do the deed then Taker gong after it goes dark. Don't even need to bring him out. Then the next few weeks, you just play some vignettes. Heyman and Brock can play the angle like DiBiase did all those years ago when it was Taker/Faker and pretend like they're bluffing.
