They have similar skillsets, both have underrated shots, protect the puck well (Hossa's better), and exceptional defensively. Hossa is more talented overall though.
But come playoff time Toews is a leader, Hossa is a complementary player, you won't be able to win with Hossa as the main go to guy.

I don't think Toews is either the best solution for "go to guy". I know he was the Captain ond MVP of championship team. But he was relatively close in performance to Keith, Kane etc.
I think Toews needs a few players to take some load off from him to be the best he can be.
That being said, Hossa is more talented but i think Toews will go down as the better player since he obviously is a great captain and example in the ice.

All 3 were exceptional, and took turns in the spotlight that run, but then you have Hossa who's obviously just as talented if not more then all of them, and he was taking the backseat.
Same situation in Detriot, arguably just as talented as Dats or Zets, and took a backseat to both again.
And in Atlanta, I know it was their first playoff but that team had no leadership and was just a mess come playoff time with their best player (hossa) with 1 assist in the sweep.
He had one great run in Pits but I'd say that had a lot to do with Crosby.

I agree on the idea that Hossa is more of a complimentary kind of guy. When you have a play-off team Hossa might just be the piece to make your team a true contender.
Toews on the other hand is the kind of player who is needed before your team is going to be play-off team. He is a great guy to be one of you'r core pieces. Not the best in the world but a very good piece indeed.

Hossa, when he is at the top of his game, is probably better (In fact there are very few players in the league as good as Hossa when he is on). Unfortunately, he is pretty streaky and can go for long stretches without doing much (though still solid defensively). Toews on the other hand is more consistently good. Offensively he can be fairly streaky (like Hoss), but the difference is that even when he is not putting points up he is extremely valuable (PK, faceoffs, defence etc...). Overall I would say Toews is the better player.
Nobody can say that Hossa's hot offensive stats are fluke. It's a shortened season, he's been playing overseas and he's playing on a great team.
Towes has extras up the yingyang, but Hossa does as well to a great extent.
To my knowledge, Hossa was not playing overseas. And I don't really see people saying Hossa's hot start is a fluke, we are merely pointing out that he is a streaky player. Which he most certainly is.

Toews and Hossa are both a little streaky.
Hossa has a more eye-popping individual plays, but I think Toews is the ever-so-slightly better player overall.
And Hossa's my favorite player on the Hawks (mostly because of those eye-popping plays)

I agree, which I stated in my previous post. The reason I take Toews is that even when he is not scoring points he is extremely valuable. While Hossa is also valuable when not scoring, he is not nearly as valuable as Toews.
