The Memphis Grizzlies and Toronto Raptors have agreed in principle on a trade that will send leading scorer Rudy Gay to the Raptors, according to sources with knowledge of the deal.
Sources told ESPN.com that the Grizzlies will acquire forward Ed Davis and veteran guard Jose Calderon from the Raptors and then move Calderon on to a third team to ultimately make this a three-team deal.
The Detroit Pistons, sources said, are one of the prime options to take on Calderon, having pursued the Spanish floor leader all season.
As a semi Raptors fan I like the addition of Gay, but I'm worried about how he and Derozen will mesh. They both play somewhat similar games, and neither is a great outside shooter, something the team could really use. The team's also overloaded on the wing with Ross, Fields and Anderson, and there won't be enough minutes to go around. Ed Davis's hard nosed play will also sorely missed in no time.
Good trade for both teams. Raptors get a borderline all-star, but Memphis needed to slash salary, but they got a great young player in Davis and potentially a solid veteran in Prince to fill in for Gay. Win-win trade for both teams
Ed Davis was playing great for the Raptors and he was finally starting to show his potential. Now he's gone and Bargnani will probably be back in the starting line up as soon as he's healthy and no, that's not a good thing. Losing Davis is going to suck for the Raptors.
Gay hasn't had the best season and he makes a lot of money but if he gets his **** together, he's easily the best player on the Raptors. He'll be their best player since Bosh.
Who knows, maybe it was a smart move and Colangelo sold high on Davis and bought low on Gay. Then again, it's Colangelo so he might have just really ****ed up.
It's going to be a great thing for the Raptors. Having a legitimate scorer like Gay will take pressure off Lowry and Bargnani, especially for Bargnani who only has to be a spot-up three-point shooter now. He'll get many open looks with Gay on the team now.
I don't understand the hate for Gay and this trade on the Raps' side. For a league that lives and dies by star players, Gay is probably the 5th or 6th best player in the East now, and the Raps have him.
