top 6 center to Ottawa

With Spezza out for the season Ottawa could use some center help. Without Spezza they are very weak at the center position, none of their other centers have ever reached the 30 pt mark. Rental players will be a solid option since spezza will be back. Who could the sens go after and what will they cost?

No need. We are fine down the middle. Gives guys like Turris, Zibanjad and others a chance to step up and develop their game.

It's better for our team to wait and just play the hand we've been given.

The only trade that I'd support is a Turris-esque trade that is good for the teams future. That would come for a defenceman or a winger, not a center. We have Regin, Turris, Smith, O Brien, Zibanejad, Da Costa, Grant, etc.

^ this. Everyone in Ottawa will bump up a line. Will the Sens miss Spezza? Of course. Anytime a point per game center is out of the lineup, you're going to feel it. With that being said, this is a great opportunity for Turris and Zibanejad to get a large boost in playing time. Turris will see top PP time and there's no reason to think he won't benefit from that. Zibanejad will also see a boost in his ice time and will play with good linemates, so there's easily a boost in numbers as well. Honestly, I think the Sens are going to be just fine while Spezza heals up. Just wait until they have a healthy and fresh Spezza for the playoffs. Could be the team to beat in the East.

He hasn't played center in 8 years.

I thought Ottawa was still re-building, despite the playoffs last season? Now would be the perfect time to tank for Sean Monahan, no?

We are still rebuilding, yes (this is year 2 of a 3-year rebuild plan). I won't lie, I wouldn't mind if we finish out of the playoffs with the strength of the draft this year. Though I have a sinking feeling that we will finish 9th in the East (and not win the draft lottery either).

with the graduation of Galchenyuk ono of Desharnais or Eller could be available
Desharnais was Habs # 1 center with 60 points last season and Eller is a promising young centerman

depends what you have to offer

Price for a top 6 center would be too high. Rather just play the season out and see how it works. Miss the playoffs oh well. See if Turris/Zibanejad/Silfverberg can step it up offensively and perform like a top line player.

Inside info? Seems you're pretty sure of that. I'll say take that down a notch.

Butch has been really playing well. Granlund, meh. If it comes to it later on in the season and the Wild are out of it, perhaps. But, I'm pretty sure he's a key cog in a playoff run if it happens.

I'd be to get a top pick as long as our team grows and gets better.

Within a decent first line still in michalek Turris Alfie it'll be hard to be a bottoms feeder especially with Karlsson.

As much as i'd like to stick to the rebuild David Desharnais definitely sounds appealing... depending on what it would cost.

I'm not completely against it, but measures would need to be taken. It's not like we're totally lost down the middle, I'd be totally fine with Turris, Smith and two of Zib, Regin, O'brien, Dacosta as our centres.

Since we are still rebuilding, we'd need to make sure we're only moving our young players for other young players. And also, I'm strongly against moving our first for this draft, considering the talent there, unless it's for something irresistible. If a second line centre could be acquired for something along the lines of Bishop + minor prospect + 3rd, and the centre was young and could fit into our long-term plans, then sign me up. Since that's unlikely, I think we should just stick with what we got.

Stephen Weiss would be amazing but I'm ok with not making the playoffs this year. With a late trade deadline we can decide to trade some assets late and get a good draft in.

The issue is that we need a C that either wont cost a lot and is a UFA after this year, or is young and would cost a ton (which I feel like we can make a trade for..example is we were willing to trade significant assets for Nash)

Maybe Matt Cullen? I liked him when he played here for a few months.

Is Mika Zibanejad available?

He would go great with our current rebuild.

If you want someone who will fill the void for a few months Connolly can be had almost free. Get a body in until Spezza returns without giving up assets may be a smart move. UFA at seasons end so no risk involved and im sure Toronto will eat 50% cap if Ottawa sends back a 4th

I agree with Connolly not being a bad fit, and would be MORE than happy with a 4th for 50% salary - I just don't see Ottawa doing it with all the space they have. How about for a conditional 7th if he walks on the moon with elvis?

He's a UFA, we shouldn't be interested.

The only trade that Murray should make is one that benefits the future as well (ala Turris).
