Should McPhee consider trading Ovechkin or Green? or both?
is it time to move their two biggest caps and shake up the core of the franchise? i dont know if we will see ovi regain his 60g/120pt form. And i dont know if we will see green regain his 30g/80pt form.
He should not NOT consider trading them, if it improves his team, but he is going to have a hard time getting good value for Green and an impossible time getting it for Ovechkin. Therefore I voted trade Green only, but really that it depends on the return should go without saying.

Since you asked the question, "is it time ... ?"; and as suggested by a poster in this thread, I've added the selection 'Trade neither'.
I wonder if Ted Leonsis would give McPhee the authority to trade him if Ovechkin continues to stink up the joint. Leonsis (at least in my opinion anyway) seems like one of those owners who doesn't care about who's playing as long as they're playing good and it makes him money.
Trade Green now... but if Ovechkin continues trending the way he has over the last 2-3 years for another 2 years or so, you have to seriously consider trading him as well... sadly at that point the return may not be great as his cap hit is monsterous... it's a tough call either way.
I mean, you can get 2-3 players with 2-3x times the production of Ovechkin for that cap hit... he certainly isn't making that up in intangibles.
Not sure about Green but Ovechkin is probably at his lowest trade value of his career. Now would be an awful time to trade him.
Thats the issue...His value may be at an all time low however I still think if they offered him up at the deadline they would get a lot...If you wait it out in hopes his trade value increases then it is a moot point because that would mean he is back to producing and at that point there is no need to trade him.
If I was Washington I would trade him at the deadline but that is because although his value is lower then it was, you can still bring in a good/great package.
I wouldn't trade Green. His value is at its nadir, but for the first time in forever he looks -right- out there. He's not putting up the numbers you might want, but he has the look of a guy about to put it all back together.
To preface: When I use the term Rockstar is not meant as an insult. IT is just refering to how Ovechkin was an entertainer on top of being a superstar. And I think he liked the spotlight, and the spotlight liked him.

Sure McPhee should look into trading Ovechkin.
But where?
He is an unhappy overpaid Rockstar, who just isn't the same guy he was 4 years ago.
HIs contract is a negative for what he has been producing lately.
I personally think he has lost that Rockstar feeling that seemed to ddrive him early in his carreer. And that maybe if he were to go somewhere that he was a Rockstar on and off the ice, his drive and enthusiasm would return.
But that is one heck of a big gamble.
And the number of places he would be treated as a Rockstar are limited. In the U.S. maybe Minny? IN Canada pretty much anywhere.
Although I like both players, I was always a Crosby fan over Ovechkin. But I don't like seeing Alex playing without the passion he had just a few years ago.
Moving Alex might not only be the best thing for Alex but for the League as a whole. BEcause right now one of their best marketing assets is just not the same as he once was.
