on a bright note, we can close the books on the sens this season and at least one eastern team won't be returning to the dance this year, leaving a gaping door for an eastern team that missed the post season last year to walk through

Sens are finished. If they still make the playoffs missing their best forward and defenseman, MacLean and Craig Anderson will deserve all the credit.

Cooke is garbage. Of course he didn't got for his heel, but he was still trying to at least slew foot him into the boards. That guy deserves no place in the NHL whatsoever. Karlsson is a beauty to watch play the game, Sens fan or not, it's just awful to see happen.

Seems like he was going for the hit and pin to me, a play that happens multiple times a game.

Playing hockey I can definitely relate to that play because like you said it happens multiple times throughout 60 minutes, but there's just zero reason for his skate to be up off the ice there like that. Momentum just doesn't swing like that. I don't know what his intentions were on this play, to me anyway it just stinks like old Matt Cookery.

Man, this definitely sucks for Sens and Karlsson.

Anyone know approximate recovery time for Achilles injury? If I am correct, I think he will be out for season.

Cowen, Spezza, Karlsson out for the Sens. Hope they don't get a top end pick though

I feel bad for Karlsson.

The Senators? Well, in the words of Randy Carlyle... "**** 'em".

Anywhere from 6 weeks to a year. All depends on how bad it is

There was no reason for his left foot to be that high up and placed in that position. It does look like there is some intent in that action after watching it again.

Disagree.

Aaron Ward says it the best.

Watch his analysis of the play and he clearly shows why it was just a hockey play gone wrong.

Horrific injury, but I'm confused as to how adamant some people are that this was an intentional play (specifically on the Sens board...though I guess it's understandable when you lose one of the best d-men in the game for potentially the rest of the season). When you look at it at regular speed, it looks to me like a simple pin play where both guys are a little off balance going into it and Cooke's skate slides between the back of Karlsson's leg and his skate as he brings it down.

Obviously you hate to see anyone get hurt like that and I hope he has a speedy and full recovery, but I just don't understand how that could be an intent-to-injure play.

I, for one, am content about the Karlsson injury. I'm not gonna go out of my way to wish an injury on anyone. But at the same time, I'm not gonna feel sorry or give any remorse. Now this is one less team we have to worry about taking a playoff spot away from the Leafs

Also got 2 games coming up against them, and they are in our division.

Found this on main board. Still laugh out each time I watch it.

From the replay, it looks like when Cooke initiates contact, Karlsson attempts to stand him up a little bit, which knocks both players off balance somewhat. Karlsson's body rotates slightly, causing Cooke's leg to ride up, they ride into the boards together, and as Cooke brings his foot back down, it catches between the skate and leg of Karlsson.

Also, I'm pretty sure it only looks like intent when you watch it in super slow-motion...at regular speed it was hard to even catch what happened the first time. If Cooke had that kind of situational awareness and reaction time, he'd likely be a much better hockey player.

Yes, it helps the Leafs, but I'd much rather beat the Senators by our own merits as opposed to through the misfortunes of their players. It's exactly the same as the satisfaction some of the Montreal fans expressed on their board when Reimer got hurt, calling it 'karma' and such.
