Vokoun with his first shutout as a Penguin

Congratulations, well earned, he played fantastic.

Most underrated goalie in the league, thought I'd pump his tires a bit.

Quietly stealing that starting spot from Fleury.

I just love how calm he is. Might not make the flashiest saves, but he brings some awesome stability.

Were I a Pens fan I'd feel a hell of a lot safer with Vokoun in net over Fleury.

lol i knew the fleury haters were gonna come out after this one. this was probably the easiest shutout vokoun will ever get. without callahan, the rangers have one line that is a threat to score and they got shut down by orpik/martin.

Great game by Vokoun. It seems like the Pens are more comfortable with him in net. He looked solid all night.

Anyone who doesn't feel safer just blindly supports Fleury. To them even Patrick Roy in his prime isn't better.

A 36/37 year old goaltender will not be the starter for the Penguins anytime soon, and that includes an older Fleury.

That said, Vokoun had a great game, he deserved the shutout. I think he will get another start.

Yep, I knew the defense played perfect hockey tonight. They only turn the puck over when Fleury's in net. Not one time did they turn the puck over for a scoring chance tonight. Also, the defense was so good at clearing rebounds in front of Vokoun tonight.....oh wait there were no rebounds.

No chance in hell Fleury has a shutout tonight. There's a reason he only gets two shutouts a season.

Watched the game. The Rangers had no sustained pressure at all. Weak, weak game by them. Good game by Vokoun. He had great rebound control.

He played the Rangers who the Pens own. When he does this against a team that doesn't forget how to play hockey every time they play the Pens it would be a bigger deal.

Nice game by Vokoun although the Rangers looked horrible. Actually both teams were horrible.

Ummm, not really sure how you can say the Pens played horrible tonight. They played a perfect road game and got the shutout.

I'm talking about this season, and why the hell wouldn't he if he outplays Fleury? He will be starting Saturday afternoon as well, DB would be crazy to not start him coming off a shutout.

Far from perfect; they played a sloppy game. NY just played that much worse. Vokoun was good.

That's good for Fleury. Now, he knows there's a decent replacement if he chokes.

Very nice game from Vokoun, hideous game by the Rangers.

Just an ugly game all-around, but the Penguins played better defensively and got better goaltending. Vokoun's confidence and perfect positioning really has an impact on the players in front of him. Fleury's ramshackle style has a lot of the defenders playing scared half the time...with Vokoun behind them the defenders just made their plays all night long. No second guessing, just making their plays...sometimes they didn't work (Despres had a particularly nasty turnover by playing with a bit too much confidence), but the cost was nothing. If Despres makes that play with Fleury in net there's about a 50% chance it winds up in the net.

I'm a Pro-Fleury guy...I think he gets an undeservedly bad rap for being left out to dry by his teammates way too often (well he deserves the derision for his performance in the playoffs...he was ran into the ground by the team starting him too much because of how much Johnson sucked last year and we paid the price)...but the team just plays differently in front of Vokoun than they do Fleury right now. I'd be more than happy with a 50/50 split between the two goalies this season.
