Chara again. Like said on the first page, he's the best player on our team, he sticks up for everyone, he's a terrific mentor, a fantastic leader, and has proven himself as one many times, among many other traits.

Bergeron is definitely next, but Chara is the perfect captain. I'd keep Bergy and Kelly away/Ference home as the A's too.

Dan Girardi would be an awesome choice.

For the Blues, I reckon Kevin Shattenkirk would be an awesome captain for one reason.. You could have Captain Kirk.

I think Hamhuis would be good in Vancouver.

Legwand would get a lot of votes in Nashville just on longevity and being the definition of "Predators Hockey". But he's reportedly turned down a letter in the past. Erat wouldn't be a bad choice, it's been fun to watch him mature over the years and take a spot as a real leader on the team.

Fisher was touted as a leader when he was brought in, and he does wear an "A", but he just seems to be more of the same type of player that we've always had here. Nothing that stands out (to us in the stands) as potential captain.

Honestly don't see much true captain material on the Preds. Weber is a good choice for bringing intensity on the ice, but it felt a little forced when he got it, and obviously the offer sheet has taken a bit of the shine off of his "C". Hopefully he gets that edge back soon and removes any doubt.

Honestly I'm not sure how Richards and Staal got As over Girardi. I like Richards fine but if he wasn't Torts' boy he wouldn't have a letter right now. I never see him do anything leader like. He can be clutch but he's too mild mannered. And Staal they probably figured was the more important piece going forward but I don't see how he's a bigger leader than G. I wouldn't be surprised if G is the real leader in the room.

Lupul seems pretty fitting. At least more fitting than anyone else on the Leafs.

Pommer for sure. I like a captain who plays in all situations, and Pommer fits the bill. Probably the most consistent Sabre too.

Vanek is fine with the A...not sure about Stafford though, I'd probably give Hecht the other A.

My money is on Girgensons taking the C when Pominville is done.

Using someone's concept above that it's more the "next" captain rather than replacing the existing one (i.e. forcing them out), I'd pick Sam Gagner then.

In fact, this thread should be who the NEXT captain should be.

As in you cant vote for the current captain, you have to pick someone else.
Hall might be a popular choice because of his passion. But I think there is a reason they gave Eberle a permanent "A" instead of Hall. He's more level headed, and I strongly believe he's going to be the next captain of this club.

Goose was always a leader in the Sabres room, and at one point I actually thought he should have been the Sabres captain, but there's probably a bunch of folks who wouldn't want a bottom 6 guy to wear it.

In the NY area teams, the only captain I'd re-pick would be the Devils---giving the C to Kovalchuk, easily the best player on the team. (Salvador would have a "A".)

It would probably be a toss up between Matt Greene and Mike Richards. Matt Greene can control a room, is vocal, and can get on everyone's good side with humor, but at the same time be serious and menacing. Richards, even though he is having an off year, exudes leadership and steps up for the team in tough situations. It is hard to keep him down long. So flip a coin and choose either of those two.
Is Brown not a good captain? From an outsiders view, he seems great.

Jamie Benn might be a captain in waiting once Brenden Morrow's playing days are finished. Given that the Stars have 3 players assigned an Acaptains, I wonder if they should have gone with home and away alternates (Ray Whitney isn't undeserving of his letter).

Thomas Vanek is both an incredible leader and the toughest player on the team, the fact that he isn't already captain of the Sabres is frankly insulting.

I say that as someone who thinks Pominville is a great player as well, but I wan't a captain with a little fire in his belly. I don't like "leading by example" as a viable form of leadership, I'm old school... give me a guy who will get in someone's face.

That's Thomas Vanek.

When Blake retired, I wanted the C to go to Dan Boyle instead of Thornton. Boyle is much more competitive than Joe is, and is more outspoken when the team isn't performing up to par. In addition, Boyle gets a lot of respect from his teammates because he has won a ring and he has played for more than a decade while being undrafted. Boyle is one of the hardest-working, competitive players on the team.

Quite frankly, Thornton would be my 3rd choice, behind Boyle and Pavelski. Boyle should get the C based on seniority though.

John Tavares, AIAEC.

Streit is Captain in Jersey only. The team lives and breathes based on John.

Probably Blake Wheeler. From what I can see from interviews he seems like a really passionate guy that hates losing, and he's not afraid to be straight up with the media either.

Ladd on the other hand seems to talk in cliches, that's not a bad thing per se but it'd be nice if he showed a bit of emotion.

Either way, I don't think we really know these players enough personally to make a judgement like that.
