Heaviest "hair metal" band?

Weird topic came up in conversation today - thought I'd throw it out there in case anyone was interested/had an opinion. Not gonna make a poll because I'll end up leaving bands off.

A few thoughts:
Couldn't decide if Pantera qualified as a "hair band." Thought maybe Motley Crue was heaviest. Was Skid Row as heavy as the Crue? Decided "hair band" contemporaries like Dio and Maiden didn't qualify, nor did AC/DC.

Anyone?

Skid Row

Slave to the Grind is a fantastic, harder and much better album than the debut.

Thats Hardrock and Heavy Metal.

Steel Panther is by far "heavier" than Motley Crue.

But how heavy can a hair metal band be before they are not hair metal?

Neither are hair bands, at least by my definition. Having long hair doesn't equal hair band though that often seems to be the only requirement for some people. Maiden and ACDC are no more hair bands then Aerosmith and Led Zeppelin.

I don't think Skid Row was ever a hair band either but they were lumped in there which is why I voted them.

Using Sirius Hair Nation channel as a reference I go with Skid Row. Slave to the Grind is a heavy song and album. Crue would be a very close second.

I would consider Pre-Cowboys Pantera as hair metal. Crue was pretty heavy with Dr Feelgood but also tracks like:

Dokken had things like Mr Scary, Tooth and Nail etc.

Obviously, there's no real criteria. It was a conversation and we were making it up. We felt those bands fell outside traditional "hair metal".

Another good question.

I prefer Chrashdiet musically. Their first album is pure gold. Second one was a little meh but the third one..
Steel Panther are kickass too, but in a more funny way

Depends on what is in the category. Ive often seen Dokken called a hair band, they are who I nominate. For a genre they were in that usually isnt taken that seriously they had a absolutely kick ass guitarist in George Lynch who has long since left the band. That guy could shred.

In what is essentially a tallest midget type category, I might also nominate Motley Crue.

There's also the issue of bands that only had a brief Hair Metal era like Y&T.

I love some of Dokken's material, but I'm thinking W.A.S.P. is a clear candidate here.

Pantera was a "Hair Metal" band, and then a groove metal band. When Anselmo took over the vocals, they changed their music. CFH and on, is Groove Metal.

Most "Hair Metal" sucks anyways, besides Steel Panther, that stuff is hilarious.

Guess again. Before Phil shaved his head there was...^^^that.

Metallica had hair. So did Anthrax, Megadeth, Slayer, Priest, Maiden, etc etc etc. Doesn't every death/grind/whatever 4000 bpm cookie monster singer band have hair down to their ***** half the time?

Does Ministry count?

Even absent the ensuing post, this doesn't really matter. It was already established above that you could have long hair and NOT be a hair metal band, so I would think the inverse would also apply.

Ministry as a hair band? Not to me, anyway.

I don't consider W.A.S.P. hair metal. They were more shock rock like Kiss or Alice Cooper.
