Subban can drive me nuts, but really? This is just a crazy coach with a ridiculous concept. Therrien isn't new to stuff like this. In 2008-'09 he had a great team on the verge of winning and through the first half of the season with the Pens and he stifled that otherwise talented team so badly. He didn't let Crosby or Malkin do their thing out there and with players like that, you let them do their thing. He was fired, Bylsma stepped near the trade deadline and they won the Cup because he let his stars be his stars. Thank goodness Therrien can speak french or else he'd be unemployed right now and the only NHL team that would want him wouldn't even look at him twice.
And that stupid stick wave at the end is really mind numbing. The owners are billionaires. The players are multi millionaires. We get it, you want to bend over backwards to "appreciate" us. Sorry, I hate those celebrations they are the phoniest thing in hockey. Let a guy like Subban and Price do their thing, the fans identify with that better than a forced stick wave. You think the players want to do that? No, and why should they? The ice surface is their sanctuary.
just gonna copy/paste my post from the other thread
This is just emberassing. This "we're a team" mantra is so exaggerated, it isn't even funny. It was already on display on Yakupov's celebration and again here. If Yak's or Price and Subban's teammates really feel offended by the celebration or the "triple low-five", then they are the most selfish and immature people to ever play in the NHL. My guess is though that actual NHL players don't mind that. Seriously, no one in their right minds would dislike players on their on teams because of minor traditions or incidents like that. It's just the fans that still live in the pre-WW2 age that still believe in some kind of "code". I also think that hockey fans often like to think of their game as the "true" team sport, so they emphasize the team thought to an absurd level (like celebrating with your teammates 5 seconds later than usual).
That last quote by Therrien is also gold. He says the fans deserve it, and yet takes away something that most of them loved to see.
This is all thanks to the mtl media, they make everything is a big issue, they go around asking the same questions every day, what do you think that Subban did this, did that , etc. I don't blame the team and players for being fed up of talking about Subban. Sadly its not even Subban's fault.
"Nice [expletive] pick Habs. Who's going to be the Assistant Coach, Darth Vader? He was ignorant then, and how do you know he has evolved now? He would chain smoke on the team bus. I hated playing for him more than any other coach. I would fly home to my family at year's end crying; they had me go see a psychologist."
