I'm not going to excuse what Malkin did either. However, I am not going to be a hypocrite and say I might not retaliate in the same way if someone just smashed my face with their stick. I've probably done worse things in all the years I've played.
Staal pushed Malkin down and his stick made contact incidentally. He didn't "smash" his stick into his face. What part of the video are you even seeing this at?

You should just stop with that argument. That is not what the rule says:

Rule 46.22 Fines and Suspensions – Instigator in Final Five Minutes of Regulation Time (or Anytime in Overtime) - A player who is deemed to be the instigator of an altercation in the final five (5) minutes of regulation time or at anytime in overtime (see 46.12) shall be suspended for one game, pending a review of the incident. The suspension shall be served unless, upon review of the incident, the Director of Hockey Operations, at his discretion, deems the incident is not related to the score, previous incidents in the game or prior games, retaliatory in nature, “message sending”, etc.

And Malkin should expect that kind of treatment for taking extra hacks at Lundqvist, or any goalie for that matter when they're covering the puck.

Obviously, as seen from what has ensued here, you can't grasp that concept.
That didn't happen.

Watch the video again.

He jumps Zetterberg who isn't even looking to fight. Watch it again.

Malkin decided to be a tough guy (some tough guy by the way, fighting a guy that's 5'10 185 and never fights), broke a rule and didn't even get a slap on the wrist for it.

What you are missing though is the fact that it isn't automatic and it is a reviewable offense. Do I agree with it? No. But that is the way it is. So to argue that it is an automatic suspension is just plain wrong.

Oh my...

They're both jostling and Malkin starts escalating.

I guess the part where "The score, sending a message", etc, etc, should be typed in Mandarin so you could understand better. Clearly English may not be your strong suit.

I forgot that the Law of the Land states you can't touch Prince Henrik. Doing so would be considered treason.

I honestly think what Staal did in that sequence was worse than what Malkin did. The initial hit on Staal was fine, standard battle for the puck, no reason for Staal to go crazy. Staal completely blew a fuse and was clearly out of control, culminating in him giving Malkin a two handed slash to the wrists and a head first shove into the boards. Malkin only responds with a 1 handed slash to the helmet and punch when he's already knocked to his back, with Staal continuing to come after him. If Malkin gets a 1 game suspension, Staal should get 2. More likely neither will be suspended, which is fine.

Staal swings his stick towards Malkin's face intentionally.

Once again, Staal knew exactly what he was doing.

No he did not. He pushed both arms out and while Malkin fell Staals stick ended up making contact. You are absolutely seeing something that is not there.

Honestly, show me where the swing is and explain how a player extends both arms forward AND swings his stick at someone in the process.

Lets ignore Staals stick to the back of Geno's legs, then his tomahawk to Geno's hands, stick to Geno's face incidental or not, twice, and we're having a whiner thread about just, Geno.

Typical HB's.

You can all go to the whine bin with, Staal. Geno didn't whine about the blatant whacks at him.

Tit for tat.

Nice double standard

Bashing Lundqvist with your stick is fine, but not Malkin

Staal was out of control and attacked first. Malkin retaliates, main board loses it and paints Geno as a serial killer.

And Scott Walker dropped his gloves and TKO'd Aaron Ward with less than 3 minutes left in a 4-0 game. Ward never dropped his gloves and had no intention of fighting.

How can you suspend Malkin after you rescinded the suspension for this a couple weeks earlier?

None. That was an honorable two-handed cross-check to the face of an unexpecting player, not a weak and cowardly one-handed slash to a guy pouncing on you.
