How long until Adam Oates is fired?

Whatever he is doing, it doesn't seem to work.

Who is available to take over the disaster the Caps are in?

Holtby sucked today. Ovy showed up for a period, Backstrom didn't show up at all. Green hasn't been the star that he should. Lazy habits by the caps stars.

When your best players aren't playing like your best players your going to lose more than win no matter who you hire as a head coach.

What would be the primary reason to fire Oates?

That should be the question. If you can find an asnswer, then ask when.

This. I watched the 2nd and 3rd period and all the Caps players looked terrible. The passing was bad, and they all looked lazy out there. As a Wings fan, I still can't believe Washington has gone from the most dominant team in the league, to this.

You can only fire the coach so many times before you start looking elsewhere for the problem. Coaching might not be the only problem in Washington...

I think the Caps will turn it around. Too much talent on that team.

I dont think coaching is the problem in Washington. Their players just arent playing well enough - simple as that.

How many coaches do they have to go through before it becomes apparent that the coaching isn't the problem?

The Caps will come back to life at some point this season...the question just is will it be too late to salvage the season or not.

Whose responsibility is it if they aren't playing enough.
At first glance sure, it's the players. But if you don't sort out the lazy players or are unable to light a fire under their ***** it's on you.

It's on Oates to do whatever needs to be done to win, even if it means to bench people that normally wouldn't be benched (not talking about Ovechkin, just a general statement).

If your players are lazy, or playing bad I would question myself and wonder "What am I doing wrong", and I am 100% Adam Oates is or has been at this point and will implement some changes.

Boudreau I think was not the problem (see Ducks, Anaheim). You dont fire him and you dont have the Hunter fiasco and Oates is somewhere else.

Dont try to make Washington into some sort of coaching graveyard.

the issue isn't coaching. It starts with their lazy undisciplined captain & filters down from there....

Oates could be the best coach in the world and the Capitals would be losing. Understand, they're playing their fourth system in three years with no camp and not enough practices to have learned it. Washington's problems all stem from decisions the GM has made.

But this is what I mean. It's like a contradiction saying that "It's not the coaches fault the players are lazy"

Sure, it isn't his fault they are lazy, but it is HIS fault for playing the lazy players. Wouldn't you say?

After 9 games?

He has already played almost everyone on the roster.

I read something somewhere a wee or so ago (not sure if it was an article or some poster here) that said players in NJ had problems adjusting to Oates style in NJ and some were quoted as saying it would never work in a season like this without a camp.

If the problems the Caps are having now still exist next December, look for Oates to get canned (and likely McPhee).

Any team that has a locker room full of guys who need someone "to light a fire under their *****" is a a team in need of a new GM.
