This thread isn't the most exciting. Just bored with my team not playing tonight I guess.
But their names have been around for so long, it might have made a lot more sense back then. That's more what I was referring to. Back in the day I don't think it was as common to call teams "Sharks" or "Panthers" or whatnot. Looking back at some of the names of Stanley Cup winners on Wikipedia, a lot of those names would sound strange in todays league. Millionaires and Maroons and whatnot.
Canucks - what the heck is a Canuck?
Ducks - oh, look a duck, so intimidating... Penguins - psh, there are no penguins in Pittsburgh.
Rangers - looks like everyone wants to be the nerdy blue power ranger.
Coyotes - might as well be the Wily E. Coyotes.
Flyers - which is it, a shoe or a wagon?
Leafs - a leaf, really?
