The Business of HockeyDiscuss the financial and business aspects of the NHL. Franchise sales, valuations, TV contracts, ratings, expansion, relocation, the CBA and work stoppage discussion goes here.
In honor/memoriam of the 30 Rock series finale, Puck Daddy looks at the many, many hockey references through the years. The Stanley Cup was one guest star that had a lot of buzz (more than most human guest stars).
There was this great line in one of the last episodes (I think 3rd to last episode, after Jack's mother Colleen dies):
“My mother stopped watching the Boston Bruins because she said Derek Sanderson’s mustache made him look like he took his sandwiches with a pickle.”–Jack Donaghy
Liz: Dennis, wake up! Dennis: Wha? Huh? Liz: You're going to burn the place down! Dennis:I wish I had burned the place down. There’s no reason to live anymore. Liz:What happened? Dennis: The Islanders lost. Liz: Doesn't that happen a lot? Dennis: I knew you wouldn't understand.
Though the NHL's connections with NBC probably made it a lot easier to actually get things cleared. The NFL can be a pain in the ass with stuff like that.
You bet your ass if I ever get my way onto a show I'm going to shoehorn some hockey references in.

on the business side of things, i really think the NHL should be extremely proactive in trying to get the stanley cup to guest star in a bunch of different popular shows. I think for a product like hockey, that type of product placement is effective to get people thinking about hockey. Most sports fans know and recognize the cup even if they've never watched a hockey game.
it was always part of E's character to be an islanders fan. Other than that, hockey references were scant.
But still, the NHL needs to remain proactive here. Make sure they're the most accessible to hollywood. I'm not sure if this is something that John Collins has talked about before, but it is something he should be focusing on, as you cant add another winter classic, can you?

And he is a huge Islanders fan in real life, IIRC he was at the Islanders draft sitting at the table with Wang and Co and was in the photo as well when they selected Tavares.
The show "Suits" on USA had a short conversation about Henrik Lundqvist a few episodes ago.
If we are talking about hockey in pop culture, how could we go without a David Puddy reference? "The Face Painter" has to be one of my favorite episodes of Seinfeld.
Fox's Bones has had a number of hockey references. Sealy (and the actor himself) is a big hockey fan. Flyers. Has a picture on the wall behind desk in FBI office.
There was even 1-2 hockey-themed shows, including one where he dreams Luc Robitaille is talking to him on the ice.
How I Met Your Mother has quite a few, not just with Robin being a Canucks fan... I know they did an episode where one of her friends played organ for the Rangers I think it was and they actually went to the stadium. Either that or they just showed shots of a game

Yeah, he actually was the guy that announced the Brock Nelson pick. He's a huge fan and it is written in his contract that there has to be something Islanders related in every episode of Entourage.

House had a few. I remember one episode where a kid got sick after going to the all-star game in Montreal. The final story arc was kind of centered around House flushing Devils season tickets down the toilet.

I remember the Devils one where they were mispronouncing each player's name.
