This goes back to what Chris said... Jones, McKinnon, Drouin are the T1 prospects in this draft. They're a bit ahead of Barkov, maybe Nich, then the class of defensemen that follow.
We would be incredibly fortunately to select one of those 3.
Barkov is right up there with Jones, Mackinnon and Drouin. He's playing in the Finnish Elite League and he's more than held his own against men. His skating might be the only thing holding him back, but even then, when you consider he plays on the big ice surface, moving to the smaller surface should help him even more.
Not to mention the Devils are forfeiting their 1st this year
Not true they still have the 2014 draft to decide till. I would guess they would hold onto to their pick for this year so their fans have something to look forward to. I think they forfeit the 2014 first rounder.

It's cool I was just letting you know. I mean they could forfeit the pick this year but they don't absolutely have to. Either way they should have done it last year. I don't care how much they liked Matteau.

There had to be a player they really wanted in particular last year.
If we don't get Jones, we will be picking a forward. I almost guarantee it.
Everyone knows it, so we might as well not pretend.
I think if we're at like 4th-6th and jones is off the board (obviously) wed likely take Barkov, Monohan or Shinkaruk and then flip Couturier or Laughton + for an upgrade at D. But if we're picking around 7thish, I wouldn't be surprised to see them go for Nurse, Zadorov or Pulock.

2013 NHL Draft Lottery Projections: 1. FLA (25.0%); 2. COL (18.8%); 3. PHI (14.2%); 4. WSH (10.7%); 5. TBL (8.1%); 6. BUF (6.2%)...
Don't get my hopes up. This is a 4 superstar player draft (Nichushkin would be 5 but I serious doubt the Flyers would take him). Would be a little bit of a bummer to land outside the top 4 even with the good players available after.
Being honest, looking at the teams near us in the standings, there's a reasonable chance for us to finish with the worst record.
I know people will point to Florida, but given how I feel about Jacob Markstrom, its entirely possible that they could string together a decent little stretch of play and pass us. Kid is simply going to be a monster. I don't see any reason Colorado can't get a little healthier and surpass us as well. Their young roster has plenty of talent.
The bad thing about those standings is more that there's a 43% chance we'd get pushed back a slot and is out on Drouin or McKinnon as well (Yes, I like Barkov too, so only a little more disappointment).
I'm predicting a top (bottom) four finish. Florida I think is going to be #1. Two through four I think will be Flyers, Sabres, and Avs, not necessarily in that order.

The best bet, or best of the worst, is to finish at least 2 worst that way if some other team wins the lottery, the Flyers would get the 3rd overall at least. I like Barkov a lot and think he might be the best fit for this team out of the 3 top forwards due to his size, but being in the top 3 opens up trade options to move up in the draft. If the team at the 1st overall wants Drouin or Mackinnon instead of Jones, they might be willing to trade down for a reasonable return if they were guaranteed one of those two forwards.
