Why nobody likes or ever talk about Ray Whitney? Underrated for years.

He has produced offensively very well in every decade he played... Nobody ever talks about him and he has been around forever.

65pts - 97-98
64pts - 98-99
71pts - 99-00
61pts - 01-02
76pts - 02-03
55pts(63games) 05-06
83pts - 06-07
61pts(66games) - 07-08
77pts - 08-09
58pts - 09-10
57pts - 10-11
77pts - 11-12

Florida, Columbus, Carolina, Phoenix... he produces everywhere he plays, even with Detroit and San Jose he had good Point per game...43pts in 67 games with Detroit and two times 40+pts in 60 games in SJ and 25pts in 39games. Always a 60+ pts player for years and nobody ever talk about him. 2nd all star team winger last year, Stanley Cup Champion, over 1000 career pts.

He is good for a minimum of 50pts every season. He averages 67pts per 82 games since he is in the NHL in 1992-1993... Very great, but no love

Probably the most underrated player with 1000pts.

Ray Whitney wanted to Join the Vancouver Canucks in 2002.

"I will thrive under that system."

Brian Burke didn't want to bring in any old players. Man was he ever ever so wrong. 11 years later Ray Whitney is still a solid top 6 player in the NHL as a 40 year old. Will like to see Gillis make a go at him at the trade dealine if Phoenix is not in the playoff picture.

i like him, very good player just not elite

edit- and his numbers were down in detroit because they were already stacked and he was used as a tweener rather then a solid first/2nd liner

Never elite, may be. But 2nd all star team winger at 39 years old, you don't see that often.

Every Caniac would love to have the Wizard back. He was probably the most popular player on the team when he was here.

The guy is a point producer, but that's all he is. When you don't score 100+ points and you don't bring anything else to the table, people won't talk about you.

That being said, I'd take him on my team for sure. He is great at what he does.

Love Whitney. Wanted him go to Pittsburgh last off-season, but it wasn't to be.

Maybe at the trade deadline...

He has his own nickname - "The Wizard" so I don't consider him unappreciated. As long as he's putting up 50+ pts I don't see any reason he should not be offered a contract with a team. Age is irrelevant if he's putting up points.

He's a good player. Not great. Kinda one-dimensional. I think he gets an appropriate amount of attention.

Yeah.

He scores regularly and puts up the points he needs to with the opportunities given. Not well rounded enough to be made such a big deal of.

Yeah, not the loudest or biggest fanbase, may be thats why he rarely gets talk about.

He thrives under small market.

I've always loved Whitney. Also, he is by far the best interview bomber ever.

I think he's just right in terms of appreciation.
You mention his name in the right situation and everyone is like 'yeah!'

But I think he's pretty much just a straight mercenary point producer and so doesn't have a huge following to pump him up as a result.

It's a shame he's gone for the next month or so, Stars could really use him.
