Oil-Ducks-Flyers 3-way

A trade that solves holes in all the teams involved.

Ducks get:
Gagner
Paajarvi
4th rounder (from Philly)
OHLer Tobias Reider
---The Ducks get 2nd line offensive depth for years to come and salary space to resign Getzlaf and Perry.

Flyers get:
Bobby Ryan
Whitney (from Edmonton via Ducks)
--- Flyers get the guy they covet in Bobby Ryan and Defensive depth with financial flexibility.

Edmonton gets:
Couturier
Simmonds
keeps 50% of Whitney's salary

---Edmonton gets that big 2nd line center and skilled grit in the 3rd line they sorely need.

Ducks won't be trading Bobby with the Perry/Getzlaf uncertainty, but if Philly would give Couts/Simmonds for Bobby, which they won't, we would take it and run.

EDM is the only team that would do this deal.

Unless I am reading it wrong, this is really bad for ANA and PHI. I can see that you are an Oliers fan, they rip-off everyone involved.

We're giving up Couts, Simmonds, and a 4th for Ryan and Whitney? No thanks. EDM wins this by a long shot. I don't know why Anaheim would do this trade either, they're playing well this year so they're going to give up Ryan for Gagner and futures?

Why is Edmonton even involved in this deal? Couldn't we just trade Simmonds and Couts for Ryan and another piece?

I am sure there is a way this could be even worse for the Ducks, I just can´t think of one right now.

I am an Oilers fan... but I don't see the inequity for the Flyers. Perhaps the Ducks get screwed a little. However, one team always gets screwed slightly for reasons fans can't quantify, like finances, room chemistry, etc.

Philly already gets the best player in the trade in Bobby Ryan.

The Ducks get can spread around the offence better than they do now. Gagner statistically is better than Bobby Ryan this year.

So what would Edmonton have to add/change to make this happen? Draft picks???

Give your 1st to Anaheim and a 2nd to Philadelphia and this proposal becomes a little less laughable.

My eyes are bleeding.

Gagner: soft and streaky. Why would we sacrifice the size and scoring Ryan brings for that? Plus with the uncertainty surrounding Perry, he's not going anywhere.
Paajarvi: We already have Cogliano to skate around real fast and not score...well Cogliano has been a bigger threat to score than MPS. Not sure I'd trade anyone on the Ducks for him. Maybe Beleskey. MPS would just take up space. No.
4th rounder: picking this low makes sense how?
Reider: wouldn't even crack our top 15 prospects. Maybe top 10 forwards...maybe. Not exactly a blue chipper.

All for Ryan. Awful.

In what way does that matter? Historical precedent plus physical evidence makes it so Ryan>>>Gagner quite easily. Ryan's currently being transitioned into a center role. Obviously there's going to be some bumps along the road.

It is a lot worse for the Ducks than the Flyers, that much we can agree on. Still, the Flyers want Ryan and the as soon as they are willing to consider giving up Couturier+ for him, they might have a foot in the door there, so the most unrealistic is that either if those teams would let the Oilers butt in with trade chips like Whitney etc. in the first place.

So Edmonton trades MPS and Gagner for Couturier and Simmonds. LOL! A pretty good deal for Edmonton.

As an Oiler fan, this proposal is awful value for everyone except us. Good grief

In regards to Reider, he would most definitely make your top 15 prospects and crack the top 10 forwards in the 6-9 range IMO. You either don't know who he is and his production so far into his career and just typed what you said for sake of something to write, or you are either severely overating many of your prospects/underating Reider. He has been nothing short of exceptional in junior and IIHF play so far in his career and has surpassed what has been expected of him from his draft day (4th Round) so far. He shows no reason why he can't perform at the NHL level one day, productively, on an NHL team. Problem is, the Oiler top six is almost all set minus maybe upgrading in size in an area or two, and Reider is another small, speedy skilled forward who we just wouldn't be able to give adaquet minutes for his skill set. He would be much better on a team needing scoring, speed and skill.

Not a bluechipper, but definitely not some throw in either. Definitely holds more value than you tend to think.

I think the part that amuses me the most is the "Oilers retain half Whitney's salary" part of the deal, considering that Whitney's contract expires after this season.

EDIT: Actually, on further review, NONE of the players the Oilers are giving up have contracts for 2013-2014. Gagner and MPS are RFAs next year, Whitney is a UFA, and Reider is an unsigned draft pick.

That's... impressive.

big fat no from anaheim, ryan is going nowhere as long as perry and getzlaf aren't signed, even then i think we prefer to keep him long term
