Is Stamkos actually getting better?

The guy is unreal. 7 goals 16 points in 8 games. He hasnt really had one stupid point night (vanek as example). He just produces every night. Can he actually improve production wise? Last year he had 60 goals 97 points. Anyone think he can go over a 60 goal pace 100 points over 82 this season. Hes turning 23 this month and realistically an elite player is at his peak between 22-25 as an average.

The real question is. Can he be a legit threat to be the new number 1 in the nhl? What would he have to do in your opinion? Score 40 goals? 70 points? Art ross? Rocket richard? Mvp? All three? Win a cup? What will it take? It seems like hes on the verge of number 1, considering what he has done in the last 3 years at such a youg age.

Sorry if there is a thread on him. I looked and didnt see one and thought he deserved it. Its still to early but hes showing signs that he could possibly dethrone crosby and malkin.

He seems like a guy who's obsessive about getting better. It's incredible to see him continue to get better and better every year.

He's damn near close. With Malkin in the top spot, I think Stammers at 1b right now and if Sid's regaining his form(looks like he is) then the top three is pretty much set. If he puts up thirty five goals this year you could make the case he's the best in the league.

The craziest thing about him, he's one of the most likeable players unlike the others who are so polarizing. Maybe the market has something to do with it but putting him with St. Louis is the perfect mentor.

This.
He is a really smart guy and you are right he has two perfect mentors in St.Louis AND Vinny Lecavalier
For me he is the best player in the world, but I'm biased

I think his health sets him over Crosby, because you can only be a great player if you play and that wasn't Crosbys strength over the last few years.
Well Malkin is debateable, as hockey players they are even, but Malkin is injured as well from time to time and Stammer is simply smarter

Barring injury, last season through next season should be his scoring peak. Enjoy this time!

As someone said, St. Louis is a perfect mentor and player for Stamkos to work around as he progresses in his career, I honestly can't think of a better person besides Big Joe Thornton to let a player grow into a great player.

I think Stamkos is close to being #1, but needs to really prove this season that he can put up a good amount of points, so far he seems to be doing pretty good.

I wouldn't be surprised to see him put up 80 this year.

Stamkos is scary, sometimes I think it's lost on people just how rididculously good of a goal scorer the kid is. Stamkos is 2nd only to Gretzky in goals scored in the NHL at his age.

I'll repeat what I've been saying the last couple years. The scariest thing about Stamkos isn't his soft hands or ridiculous shot. . . . . it's that he's still only 22 years old.

But tanking for the top picks doesn't equal success. AmIright?

I'm not his fan and he is arguably #2 (or 1b if you want) behind Malkin. Then there is distant question with Crosby and that's it.
His goalscoring will decline soon IMO, it would be interesting if he will be able to adapt his point totals in corelation with lower amount of goals.

Yakupov sliding around the ice after scoring=success. If only the Habs could learn of the power of showboating. With great tanking comes great responsibility. I have no idea what any of this post even means.

Of course he can get better, particularly at his age, which is, what? 24?

*edit* he is 23 in 4 days.

He is scoring unreal goals all the time. Remarkable.

But at the same time, he is hardly dominating games in any sense and isn't much of a factor on a shift by shift basis.

Its hard to rank him against other dominating players. Someone like Malkin got a shift presence on a whole diffrent planey than Stamkos.

I am not the biggest fan of these sniper types.

If he beats out Malkin big time this year then i say yes. Looks like Malkin may have lost step this year or he just playing poorly, we have to see at the end of season.

Tampa's shooting at like 19% 5v5 and 25% 5v4 when he's on the ice. He's a great player, but he's not going to sustain his current rate of production.

You mean to say he's not going to finish the season with 2 points per game?

Shocking.

I think Stamkos has started both previous season and the season before at amazing rate, no surprise here. Short season benefits him.
