you dont notice stamkos until hes shooting really. He's pretty elusive and since he has St Louis on his line, he doesn't have to be the main puck possessor.

Really just a right time, right play type of sniper. His shot isn't going to get weaker as he gets stronger... and most of his goal scoring is positional and hockey sense. I don't see it declining too much for the "old" 23 year old before hes 30

The scary thing is he has actually been worse offensively than last season, he still can put up another gear.
He's being better defensively each year

The Tampa PP is ridiculously good which is probably where he picks up most of his points.

He has 3 goals on the PP don't know how many assists.

The only thing keeping Stamkos from breaking most of Gretzkys career total records, is future work stoppages

He's the Durant of the NHL. Best player, but his team's market location hurts his national marketability

Also he has St. Louis. I could score 30 with St. Louis feeding me passes.

Like he is going to score 900? That will never happen.

Gretzky scored 197 goals in his first "3" seasons

So while Stamkos is still unreal, that poll isn't 100% accurate, but here is how he ranks against players in their first 4 seasons

Gretzky 269
Bossy 241
Ovechkin 219
Lemieux 215
Robitaille 196
Martin 185
Stamkos 179
Stastny 178

Rick Martin is the only non-HHOFer there and I am assuming we can all agree Stamkos is well on his way to a HHOF career.

He's much better defensively than many fans believe. One area of his game that I'd like to see him improve is face-offs.

Not really, I've watched every game this year and he's probably rated average defensively, I wouldn't put him in the above average category just yet.

Face-offs are still pretty bad, but his numbers are astounding given the fact that he still isn't 100% yet.

Its so unfair to compare stamkos to gretzky... if stamkos would have played in gretzky era he would have season of 130 goals lol.

At the same time, Stamkos came in as an 18 year old, and many of these players (such as Ovi) did not. Still, take out Ovi and all of these guys came into the league in a very high scoring era, and in fact Ovi broke in after the lockout when scoring was also significantly higher than today. What I'm getting at is Stamkos is pretty frikkin good.

Whats the deal with Tampa? Seems like they flip flop from contender for the cup to contender for the draft lottery every other year.

Well, obviously the Red Wings model isn't sustainable, as it seems their playoff run may be coming to an end. SFY, in his infinite wisdom, chose Cup/Lottery switch off every year instead, to keep the talent level in the organization high.

I'm convinced his late goal last night teleported into the net. I've been watching hockey for 24 years and I don't think I've ever seen it hit that well before.

In terms of future records its hard to think too far ahead, Ovechkin sure isn't hitting 60's any more, but Stamkos's playing style sure suggests longevity.

That shot last night was ridiculous. I couldn't see it in slow mo, and you can bet Biron couldn't see it, either. The fact that he got the corner with a shot that hard... Dayum. Glad he's on my team.

Stamkos is going to be a great one. What a great season he and the Lightning are having thus far.

Stamkos stats, once again are inflated, look who he plays with! Top 3 RW in the NHL, MSL. This guy makes Stamkos that much better. I would like to see Stamkos with Kunitz and Dupuis and put up the same points.

malkin has neal, but hes no MSL. If Malkin or Crosby had MSL, they would put up 200pts.

You can write those guys off it was a completely different game back then. In the end i think its Lemiuex and Stamkos top-2 goal scorers of all time. If Stamkos continues this pace for 5-7 years then he is the best.

And the fact that he won't play until he's 65 years old.
