I never vote in these, because I only know about those goloden past days from reading not actually watching them, but I always read the discussion. Thanks to everyone for giving me a glimpse into that world.

Sakic was one of the most consistent players of all time. From the age of 20 to 37 you could comfortably expect him to put up between 80 and 110 points. One of the best stretch of prime years of any player in NHL history.

And peak at 118 points, 54 goals in the middle of the DPE. Second best season of the decade behind only Ovechin's 65 goal season in my opinion.

Anyways if Malkin and Sid have more playoff success or have years where they're performing at their best (no injuries nor slumps) then they could definitely overtake sakic+forsberg, but I don't think they have yet.

It's really the end of the argument
What on earth do you think constitutes a players "Prime" ?

In reality, easily Crosby and Malkin. On HF, where players of the past are always greater than those currently playing, Sakic and Forsberg.

Don't hate on ppl who've watched both. Everyone is entitled to there opinion.
Perhaps we'll have a better opinion of this when we'll have seen crosby and Malkin for the entire duration of they're career.
Till then; Sakic Foppa for me.

I'll take Forsberg + Sakic given the respect they commanded from their teammates and the league, defensive prowess, and clutch factor. And they weren't slouches offensively.
I'm in favor of Forsberg and Sakic and voted for them, but this has absolutely nothing to do with anything.

Also I think people are underrating Crosby's defensive game. He works damn hard every shift.

Can't believe Sakic and Forsberg are leading this poll. And with a good margin, too.

Its hard to say. Forsberg was probably had the most raw skill of the four but had health issues just the same as crosby has. Malkin is super dominant but streaky, while sakic was probably the most reliable player of the four, a great leader and super skilled as well. All in all at this juncture id take Forsberg & Sakic

I think offensively Crosby and Malkin are dominant on a level above Joe and Peter. But Sakic and Forsberg were both incredibly complete players and incredibly clutch, and in Sakic's case, one of the most consistent players of all time. I think maybe once Crosby and Malkin play out their whole careers and maybe win another cup or two, I take them over the Avs duo but until then/unless they do I don't pick them yet.

Crosby and Malkin are the top 2 players in the league. Pretty easy choice for me.

Forsberg had his health issues as well, kinda a wash there. Plus Malkin is no less consistent than Sakic was during the period him and Forsberg played. Also, Forsberg Sakic had 10 seasons together, Crosby Malkin are starting their 7th, so to be fair give them a few more seasons.

Ah, HFBoards! If I ever want to be drowned in a sea of unbridled nostalgia, I know where to come. Apparently, hockey has diminished so much that the two most dominant forwards of this generation pail in comparison to the fifth or sixth ranked players of yesteryear.

Crosby and Malkin, any day of the week.

Honestly wow this is hard. Two superstar talents that both dominated and had amazing career vs probably the 2 best players in the game today. I'm going with Crosby - Malkin though because they are generational talents.

What's the reasoning that allows you to arrive to the conclusion that Crosby and Malkin are the two most dominant forwards of their generation.

Yeah, maybe for a few seasons but even then there was the top 3 including Ovechkin, then the rest of the field. It's not nearly that clear cut anymore due to Crosby's health issues, Malkin's health/inconsistency, Ovechkin falling hard and other players scoring a ton (Stamkos, Thornton, Sedins, etc.)

If you had asked this question a year ago Crosby wouldn't even be in the discussion. Until he proves he's back to pre-concussion form for any length of time he's not the best anymore.
