OT: Buying tickets

Hi guys, oilers fan here from Northern Alberta, Canada. I'll be visiting Chicago in April and would love to catch the hawks-preds game on April 7th. I just wanted some advice on buying tickets from scalpers as ticketmaster doesn't have much available for sale. With the team doing so well I would imagine it's the hottest ticket in town! Any advice would be much appreciated. Thanks for your time.

EDIT: Do HFHawks members sell tickets on this forum? (I know the HFOil members do).

Don't buy from scalpers on the spot. Best tickets are from stubhub.com IMO.

Stub Hub and the Blackhawks ticket exchange.

I don't walk down Madison anymore when I go to games, where all the scalpers used to be. Are they still there?

They certainly are, doesn't have that much to do with the hot start, though. Hawks have been back to having the toughest ticket in town since 08-09.

As for advice, I'd recommend waiting until close to gameday. Often extra tickets are released by the team on game day, ones that were being held for player's families and such. That's the only way you're going to find tickets through the Hawks, as everything is sold out outside of those extras they are forced to hold onto. Also, by waiting until the end you might find tickets on the secondary market drop as brokers need to get rid of them last minute if they didn't sell for what they wanted.

Some additional sites on top of Stubhub and the Hawks exchange:

Vividseats.com - a Chicago based stubhub competitor. Have had a really good experience both selling and buying here. Their commission is way less than Stubhub, so you might save a few bucks here.

seakgeek.com - search engine of pretty much all secondary sites

Have fun

It is rare that I see scalpers on Madison. Most of the people I see are those who are asking for tickets, not selling them. If you so choose to go this route, though, I wouldn't buy from them unless they were willing to come with you to the gate and hand them the money after you get your ticket scanned.

There still are some tickets to most games available as we speak. The great thing about TM lately is that there is an interactive seat map, so you can see exactly which seats are available.

mjsmith19: A quick glance at that game shows that a few tickets still are available.

If they're not willing to do that, they're not worth your dime.

I'd be very leery of Craigslist...have read some bad articles about plenty of people who have been cheated on there.

No scalper is going to do that if they have other tickets to unload. You as the buyer wouldn't be worth their time because now they're stuck eating tickets because they had to baby sit you to the door.

Get real.

I never said scalpers would do that, so "get real" is inapplicable. My entire point is that it's the only "safe bet" around when it comes to dealing with scalpers. If you don't do so when dealing with scalpers, and it turns out the ticket is counterfeit, it's your own fault...Just don't do it.

I use Goldcoasttickets.com, Craigslist, and Stubhub. Gold Coast can be pricey but for the opener I nabbed a single for $60 and picked it up right on Madison next to the stadium, so the convenience is nice.

You could always have someone babysit the scalper.

Thanks for the information. I ended up going with StubHub and bought some row 6 at the dot (hawks attack end once) which I'm really happy with. Looking forward to experiencing a game in your barn!

I don't have much left for sale but anyone is free to inquire via PM.
