I would welcome Carlson

Although Ballard has played well, that D core has not gotten us anywhere

Carlson's potential is too much to pass on

What?

Hamhuis ,Bieksa
Edler, Carlson
Garrison, Tanev

Looks workable to me

I hope it is Carlson, but Caps fans day he is untouchable.

We would also need a backup goalie coming back

How does a Scout at the game make people think of Erskine, Neuvirth, Laich, Forsberg or Kutznezov. Would it not make more sense to scout someone, you know, actually playing? Although Neuvirth might do so in hurry soon.

Something around Schneider and Carlson I would be able to get on board for.

not if we build a competent 2nd line, which should be the priority, not more ****ing 3rd line grinders. The Canucks need players that can produce offense. If Gillis can't see that he should be fired.

How do the Canucks fit under next years cap with Ove without gutting the team?

We were sheltering Cody Hodgson in the regular ****ing season

And to an extent, Schroeder right now

Come playoff time....

Also isn't that the problem? If we have the Kesler line to play the role of shutting down other team's top lines, than there won't be enough production

That was something that Gillis and our fanbase wanted to address and move past

No, they'd be laughing at us since we'd be in cap hell next year and beyond, and be subsequently forced to trade away key piece of our team....

It would be like when the Canucks acquired Mogilny. Ovechkin with the Sedin twins would be interesting...

The only way ovechkin is coming to Vancouver is if both GMs lose their minds.

Canucks would need to dump a lot of cap to take on his contract, and Ovechkin is the face of the Caps franchise

Ironically, I'd be just as happy as I was when the Canucks acquired Luongo.

That salary is ugly though.

My guess would be:

To Vancouver: Johansson, Carlson, Holtby, Washington's 2nd round pick

To Washington: Schnieder, Higgins, Ballard, Rodin

would be willing to bet that doesn't happen.

Ovechkin comes with a cap hit of $9.538mill/yr. That's going to suck all the depth off this team. And Gillis has repeatedly talked about how important having depth is, and after seeing the injuries we've suffered over the years, that just validates that more.

Given Gillis' moves in the past, he's likely looking for a 2-way type player, or a young player with good upside, likely on a manageable contract.

I can't see the Canucks adding any player with Ovechkin-like cap hit. Just goes against everything that Gillis has been preaching as far as how he's building this lineup (depth, Sedin-salary ceiling, overall payroll structure, etc).

Or Schneider.

I'd be pretty upset if Luongo was traded at this point.

I see your pointon the players, but Gillis is a bit more than merely a scout.

I was going to say a Perreault - Schroeder swap, but Perreault isn't playing.

I'm so glad there is no chance in hell of OV coming here. His contract is massive and he doesn't even care. He was broken in the 2010 vancouver olympics. He would get annihilated by the media/fan pressure in Vancouver. He would be even worse than he is now. I'd rather run with schneider/luongo until the end of eternity than spend money on OV. Such a waste of money.

I think that's the problem. All the other players see him play so uninterested and he's supposed to be the leader. I think the Capitals need a new captain.

how's that?

acquiring a player that we didn't really need, that forced other players to play out of position (namely Bure), and eventually realized that there was no chemistry there, while giving up a player that the organization desperately needed at that time, in a young tough 2-way center?

the biggest mistake Quinn made was blowing up a team and changing their entire makeup after a Cup run. They needed to add to their holes (again Peca was a perfect fit to fill the team's biggest hole), not change their game plan and try and get faster and more skilled while losing the heart and grit that got them to the finals.

I think Neuvirth is a better fit for the returning goalie we get. Take out Higgins and switch Holtby to Neuvirth and that looks decent.

Ward/Brouwer + goalie for Lu

Ironically I think Brouwer kinda looks like kesler and seems like the kind of player everyone would immediately hate if he was a Canuck ... Perfect fit
