Agreed, I was really hoping they were going to trade for him last year.

His value was lower, but not too low. A package around Clowe wouldn't have cut it. It still would have been Demers/Braun+.

Florida would want signed offensive players. So they aren't a good partner Plus they are far from out of it.

Colorado isn't good either they want a roster player and prospect for O'Reilly, Jones isn't going anywhere.

Washington from last year doesn't give up so they are unlikely to trade roster players.

Islanders would want cap returning and are more likely to trade their aged Defense than their young forwards.

Wouldn't want anything from the Blue Jackets not named Johansen.

Buffalo might be a good partner but They don't have good pieces for us that wouldn't be a backwards move to get.

Best option would be Ottawa. Season more the likely over and most willing to trade.
Problem is they will get many offers since a lot of teams are close to the top 8.

Think Braun & Clowe could fetch him now?

Wasn't the rumor that a late-first would get it done? And so Sharks fans were proposing Demers + 2nd/3rd or Clowe for Grabner + something....that is just what I remember.

At this point, I would do Clowe straight up for Grabner.

While I think that value wise, Clowe is equal or even > to Grabner, NYI should have no interest in him.

I would wager that something like Braun + 1st would be required.

NYI is a bit of an odd team is that they don't put feelers out like a lot of others. Like, for example, we know that certain teams in the past have inquired about SJ players, and in the future, it makes it easier to hypothesize trades because we know what the other team wants. For example, NJD had a history of being interested in Zalewski, SJ always coveted Guerin, etc.

I don't remember that ever being an actual rumor (not counting like hockeyinsider or eklund). I find it hard to believe that Snow would be that dumb as well. Wang loves those long-term cheap contracts, and it'd be a very dumb move to trade Grabner while his stock was at all-time low, especially for something as meager as a late 1st.

And Snow would laugh and hang up. I agree that something around Braun and a 1st would entice them.

Agreed. Ottawa is without its best player (Karlsson) its two best forwards (Spezza and MM) and Jared Cowen. They are sunk.

Looking at the value of Versteeg thread, I quickly made a 13-14 roster to see he'd fit.

Patrick Marleau ($6.900m) / Joe Thornton ($7.000m) / Joe Pavelski ($4.000m)
Kris Versteeg ($4.400m) / Logan Couture ($2.875m) / Martin Havlat ($5.000m)
Tommy Wingels ($0.775m) / James Sheppard ($1.200m) / T.J. Galiardi ($1.000m)
Sebastian Stalberg ($0.925m) / Andrew Desjardins ($0.700m) / John McCarthy ($0.613m)

Dan Boyle ($6.667m) / Brent Burns ($5.760m)
Marc-Edouard Vlasic ($4.250m) / Brad Stuart ($3.600m)
Justin Braun ($1.250m) / Jason Demers ($1.500m)
Nick Petrecki ($0.715m) /

Antti Niemi ($3.800m)
Alex Stalock ($0.750m)

SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $63,679,167; BONUSES: $32,500
CAP SPACE (21-man roster): $653,333

Not too bad, though that 4th line is pretty subpar.
That was just for funzies too. I'm not even sure I want Versteeg's contract.

Makes absolutely no sense what so ever to give up assets for him..Sure if Sens want to swap Clowe and a 30th round pick in 2037 for him I would do it. But again, giving up assets for OTH Alfie doesnt fly.
I'm making an exception because I love Alfredsson. I wouldn't trade for Iginla, or Doan, etc.

And honestly, outside of Hertl, we don't have any prospects that will help us much anyway.

EDIT: Also, I had a terrible nightmare last night that we traded Nemo for two AHL lifers and a 4th round pick... the funniest thing is that's my biggest fear right now.

Iginla is not a good fit. Hes no longer the monster power forward due to age and injuries.

That 4th line is awful. Where is Burish, buyout?

DW just needs to trade our 1st and Hertl for Iginla already. The suspense is killing me.

I'm a big fan of Mueller and think he would be a good fit on the Sharks. He had his concussion issues but as long as he is healthy - which has been so far in the short season - he would be a great add for the Sharks. Being right handed with a good shot I think he could give the lineup some added flexibilty. Also as an RFA there is a certain amount of cost control for the next two years as the Sharks have to transition to the lower cap next season.
If DW could somehow swing a deal for Demers/Braun and a 2nd/Hamilton/other prospect that would be fantastic in my mind.
Obviosly Florida probably values him for the same reasons, and they are pretty loaded with solid prospects in all positions including defense. So it's probably pretty dificult task to pry him away.
