Everyone knows the players are having a tough time getting into the game, getting their legs back and all, but what about the refs? They've been blowing an awful lot of apparently simple calls so far, they are struggling to get back in game shape and to keep pace, for sure.
Right before that Petry had an interference call that was just brutal. Refs were terrible that entire game.
Don't forget the 'hold' Petry was called for, and my favourite: Gomez called for obvious goalie interference. Puck goes up to Nugent-Hopkins for a 2 on 1. The play is whistled down for some sort of phantom cause, nullifying the chance the Oilers could have had on the 2 or 1. That unbearably horrendus call on Clowe just evens up how terrible the Zebra's had been towards the Copper and Blue.
I'm seeing a lot of goalies throwing themselves back when being touched or brushed. VERY SOFT stuff.
Diving is becoming a real problem in this league. Every year it gets worse. Yeah, the reffing has been pretty bad, but if the players aren't flopping all over the place trying to get calls and goals disallowed, it makes their tough jobs a little easier.
No wonder scoring is so low, half the goals are called off
But really this has been a problem for a while. Nhl is over compensating for the Lucic-Miller incident. Goalies are coming out of their crease, initiating contact and getting the goal called off It's hard to watch.
first one is absolute bogus, second one seems fair to me.
Bad replay, but only one I could find. The contact didn't impede Quick at all. On the first one, you can see a ref (#65) skate all the way from the blueline, calling it a goal. He points at where the puck was and starts yelling at the other ref who has the "I messed up bad" expression on his face. Never seen anything like it before.
