I'm not so confident that Marty would make some of the saves Hedberg made today.

On a different note, their 5 on 4 powerplay setups never work. The only time they do score is off a lucky bounce or deflection. Just get the puck to the net and hope for the best is miles better than just shooting from the point every single time.

It seems Islander fans are pissed that we scored on a make up call. LOL You had 7 power plays and only had 5 shots on them. Quit complaining you dorks.

Big win, and it is even better that we dont have to see Grabner hang out at our blue line for 25 minutes a game for a long time.

I would be excited. The big guns will get back on track soon enough. Getting points while they are in a cold streak is a positive thing.

He looked good at the point in the third too. The one PP had its best chance with him at the point. He should get some PP time over Greene.

Seriously. Great read on Kovy but what the hell was he doing there in the first place?

Some night it MUST be the grinders that come through. That is why they are so important.

As true as this is, a penalty with less than 5 minutes in the third is not the same as a penalty halfway through the second. But the second goal by Bernier was 5-on-5 anyway so doesn't make much sense in complaining. I'm an Islander fan but I also think it's dumb to complain about the goal. Just putting into perspective why some are so upset.

Gritty win. Two thoughts.

1. Time to move Kovalchuk back to left wing. He needs to be able to get into shooting positions more. That is on the left sidenwith his stick towards the goals.

2. Fayne is the lynchpin of this defense. Anyone who wants to trade him is an idiot.

I guess he went to the Pavel Bure school of penalty killing.

Ya, they got some questionable calls in their favour too, and more importantly, plenty of non-calls before that. No room to complain.

Didn't like Greene tonight, but I missed a big chunk of the game so I might have only caught some rough shifts.

This definitely, plus it was a regulation win and shutout to boot. After yesterday it is the type of game that can get the wheels moving. Still lots of room for improvement obviously, but you have to start somewhere after a losing streak like that.

yay win!

Positives

Hedberg- made several key saves to keep us in the game and earned a well deserved shutout
Bernier- 2 huge goals
Greene/Larsson- Larsson had a brutal giveaway early on, but settled down real nicely and played tough minutes against the Tavares unit. Greene was his usual solid self and did something we havent seen on the PP: A SHOT
PK- cooled down the "hot" Islanders PP and even sparked some offense. Great effort from everyone who participated
Gionta's embellishment- Gionta milking that call late in the third was huge
Mark Fayne- it shows we sorely missed this guy. Made several nice plays despite playing with Sal

Negatives

Penalties- lots of lazy hooks, but a few of them were because our defense's speed got exploited
Salvador- Im not sure how we're gonna make it through the next two and half years with this guy. He's slow, often out of position and an offensive black hole. I dont care if he has the leadership skills of George Washington
The lines- Deboer needs to shake up the top 6 because its clear that they cant create any offense.
Refs- I would put them higher, but Gio did sell that call. That interference call against Larsson was horse**** though. Tavares is quickly becoming one of my least favorite players. Between the diving and yapping, it's getting old

Not a perfect performance by any means, but it's nice to snap that losing streak and head into the Rags game with a bit of momentum

He was solid all night. That one penalty which he HAD to take doesnt negate his play. He is always solid.

Too much Greene hate on these boards. He would be near the end of my list of defensemen who should be traded.

Great game by Moose. But this team needs something offensively. A new look, player...whatever. Just something. It's brutal to watch them offensively out there.

It was a correct interference call.
Not a great game by a longshot but very happy with Moose and that they hung in there overall. Kovy/Zajac not sure what they are doing. Liked Butler's energy and Fayne.

I'm not necessarily calling for him to get traded (Tallinder/Volchenkov pls go), and defensively he looks fine, but he's not really doing it for me in the offensive zone. He's a little over-cautious and if he ever shoots, it takes him approximately and ice age and a half to get it off.

I just want a little more out of him, because I've seen a little more ability before.
