The moment you realize your team is run by nincompoops

I'm just getting to the point with the Caps(yes, I am also a Wings fan, but they are quite well run)where I'm now sure the team is run by clueless dolts. I thought the Jagr only being terrible in DC was an anomaly because he came to the team at the wrong time. But not in my wildest dreams did I think they could ruin the magnificence of Ovechkin and the special talents of Backstrom and Green to boot. This team is run without specific systems, not made to practice and I'm positive the owner is meddling with the GM and coaching. Players aren't usually used to their strength but seem to be put together in the "Throw this out there and see if it sticks" mode. I seriously doubt much if any video is shown to any players. The most baffling decisions seem to be made(as mentioned in another thread) the Caps ditched Nylander while still on contract but while they also they didn't have a true #2 c. They let Fedorov who was really helping the kids, go to Russia over a couple million bucks. Then came the driving out of the marvellously talented, but often frustrating Alex Semin. The fact that this team now seems to have fallen so far, so fast just convinces me this is mostly ownership. It's just devastating.

I gave McPhee and Leonsis a pass for Jagr, more or less. For me the Pens series was realization and Montreal was acceptance. They kept selling all the players as having untapped potential to fill all the holes on the roster even though the limitations of most were apparent. Now that the rebuild is quite obviously over and didn't have a fairytale ending (or even an ECF ending) they have no idea what to do but throw **** at the wall.

This offseason just made it too obvious to to ignore for anybody.

As a Lightning fan.
Somewhere around June 2008 until May 2010.

The Toronto Maple Leafs. I have grown up with mediocrity.

No, Ovechkin is simply not the same player he was then, and neither is green.

In Vancouver it was the trade deadline in 2010. Gillis failed to load up for a cup run. The intangables they tossed away make me sad in retrospect. He had a gold medal winning goalie and a team that survived the longest road trip in NHL history. There was more going on, too, but it was squandered.

Green is literally the least of our problems.

Any team that needs Ovechkin to be old Ovechkin to get into the playoffs is set up to fail once there.

Yeah, what a nimcompoop. He only got our team to the SCF the next year. Caps fans feel our pain.

Specifically for me... the moment he signed Ward to the contract he did considering the player`s credentials.

I thought it a massive display of a knee jerk ill advised move... I was thinking `this guy doesn`t know what he`s doing`

But i don`t follow the team super closely..

Sadly, Ward has been one of the brightest spots this season for the Caps. In fact, he's almost equalled his super low goal total of last season already. Chimera did the overachieving last year until December when Ovechkin finally took over the team lead in goals and never looked back.

Ward is 3rd for points for the Caps, their leading goalscorer so far and scored a big goal in the playoffs. I wouldn't be hating on the signing as of right now if I were a Caps fan. With that said, it's early in the season and you guys have the firepower to bounce back imo.

My team's GM is an accountant and the coach missed the playoffs....in th AHL before getting hired. His avg finish is around 11th in the conference over 3 yrs and he still has a job.

For what it's worth, I think Green's game looks better than it has in years (he still has no feel for the position in his own end, but that's just him). Might be the only Capital that looks great, but the guy's gonna produce this season unless he gets hurt. So that's one less thing to worry about.

I would bet money that Backstrom's hiding a concussion. So that would explain why he's been playing like trash.

And Ovechkin...yeah. They screwed up with him. Did the same thing Atlanta did with Kovalchuk and Columbus did with Nash. "He's our best player, so we don't need to make him learn the little things that make NHL players successful." Let him slide on conditioning. So now he's not fast enough to play the way he did when he was successful and doesn't have a solid foundation of hockey knowledge to fall back on, which is what guys like Selanne and Jagr fell back on when they lost a step.

I honestly don't know what you do to correct this, or if you even can. I mean, he could look for soft spots and someone could dish to him there, but I'm not sure how well that would work. That approach requires sustained possession. Considering the guy doesn't seem to know how to cycle, I don't know that he can be part of a line that pins the other team in the offensive zone at even strength for long stretches.

From 1998 through 2004 the Rangers missed the playoffs. I realized it somewhere in there.

But suddenly this Lundqvist kid showed up out of nowhere and we've contended ever since

Nyquist is 23 and has two seasons in the AHL at a PPG yet he's still stuck down there. And Tatar too. KH = nincompoop
