Super Bowl Entertainment - Halftime, National Anthem, America The beautiful, etc

Wasn't sure if I should have put this here or in the Entertainment thread, but what did everyone think of the entertainment aspects of the Super Bowl this year: Commercials, halftime, National Anthem and America, The Beautiful. I know they were commented on in the main threads, but considering how long those are, I figured it deserved it's own thread.

For me, I liked pretty much everything, even though the Commercials left a lot to be desired. A lot were just misses, with only a few highlights, like the Doritos ones, the Deon Sanders bit, and Montanaland. A lot of them just felt boring, like the Taco Bell ad.

As for the music, America The Beautiful was great, but did Jennifer Hudson lose a lot of weight? She is looking great. That's not to say she didn't look good before, but tonight it was like seeing a different Jennifer Hudson. Also, the stuff with the Sandy Hook band was really emotional. Alicia Keys was pretty good too, even though I still like the 2003 Dixie Chicks version as my favorite NA rendition.

As for Beyonce, I liked it. I wish she had sung some more, but she looked really good, danced well, and the reunion with Destiny's Child was solid. I was entertained all throughout, which is something I could say for the last 2 halftime shows. I also wished DC would have done some of the more recognizable hits, like Say My Name, but it was great to see, considering I spent my high school years listening to them.

Overall, good show this year.

It was good, but beyonces music just isn't my cup of tea. NFL always seems to cater to the pop music crowd. I'd like to see Tool next year, but expecting Pitbull

I wasn't watching Beyonce for her music.

Weren't they going classic rock a few years ago with Tom Petty, The Who, etc?

I would love it if they went Country, maybe have Carrie Underwood and Taylor Swift do the halftime show. In the lyric of Taylor swift, sparks would totally fly for that one.

She would probably be hitting on the single football players. You know she is a bit of freak when comes to boys.

But I vote for some country, Zac Brown

Had this discussion with my wife.

In NJ, there will be no chance of country like some of you wish.

In order I'm betting on:

1.Bieber
2.Gaga
3.Perry

As for this years' show, it was very good. Keys' jazz ending to the NA kind of ruined it IMO. Beyonce's show from a visual POV was a smash hit, but yeah she could have sung more. To me this was the best show since Prince(although I liked hearing The Who, but visually they did nothing).

Sadly, you might be right but I'm still hoping for Jay-Z. If they're ever going to allow rap music at the Super Bowl again, it should be Jay-Z in NY/NJ. Based on what I've seen in the entertainment threads on this forum, I'm guessing I'm going to be in the minority on this one.

Honestly, that would be awesome.

I'd love to see an ode to NY/East Coast style hip-hop/R&B featuring a combo of Jay-Z, Kanye, Mary J., the Roots, etc.

The entire time I was watching that halftime show I was thinking "man she can sing, but most of these songs are horrible." It's really bad when you maybe know only half the songs played in the set. I really wanted to see a big superbowl ring prop when "single ladies" was played, would have been awesome.

Didn't watch the halftime show, but there was a prop bet on length of the National Anthem and it went over the 2:15.

A hip hop themed show will never go over well on this board. Ever. Just saying.

Beyonce killed it IMO.

Also, if they got Jay-Z next year :O.

Forgot it was in NJ next year. That narrows it down to Springsteen or Bon Jovi

I'm calling Bon Jovi next year

Although I wouldn't be overly shocked if they went with Lady GaGa or something.

J-Hud & Alicia Keyes were terrific. Beyonce, not so much. And next year better either be Bon Jovi or The Boss, not Gaga or even worse, JayZ.

I am a big fan of Alicia Keys but the national anthem was just a bit off. I guess it was just too slow for it to really feel like the national anthem. Nonetheless, her voice is amazing!

I agree. I liked the interpretation, but the pace reminded me of Bleeding Gums Murphy

Felt like trotting out the Sandy Hook kids was over the top and politicized a sporting event.

Glad I wasn't the only one that thought that ... the NFL/CBS should be taken to task for that

I like the idea of Zac Brown. Someone who is current and really big in the genre would be nice and Zac Brown Band fit the bill.

I know it won't happen though, but if the game is going to Phoenix in a couple years, make it a country theme and do like ZBB, Eric Church, or someone else. It will be different and not as "risque" as the show yesterday.
