Maybe he's referring to Jarome Iginla specials. But we only have one all year.

Empty net goals against the Oilers.

Amazing he didn't get one in the game against us. Even Statsny's got him beat.

Cherrypicking that would make Rick Nash blush?

I think that's exaggerating Iginla's empty net goals. He probably averages like 2.5 a year. Even the year when he had 50 he only had like 2.

Then again, What the .... Do I know.
I can't have a productive shift in beer league if our games are a week apart.

People need to start understanding that the best teams in the league don't win every game by a landslide. They aren't always pretty and if the Oil want to become contenders then they have to start putting up "junk points" and "didn't deserve to win that game wins" too. Good teams find a way to win when they are not playing at the top of their game in the regular season.

Last year we were in the same position at this point but were playing much better hockey with insane goaltending from Khabby. This looks good for us right now because we aren't on the top of our game but are still hanging in there and pulling off wins...it will come, and if we are able to put a streak together soon and put it all together we will be much better off. Not every game is going to be lights out, they just have to fight through and get the points when things aren't going exactly according to plan and they are doing that now.

Our fourth line won't really play that type of game at all...not sure what this is about.

I'm so glad Whitney is sitting tonight. Some of his comments in the recent Dittrick article really irk me, particularly "I guess I have to play at a higher level." It doesn't seem like he is holding himself accountable for his poor play and sitting him should be a well-deserved wake up call, imo.

There is no way that Fistric has been our 2nd best defenseman. He has been solid for a bottom pairing guy but nothing more than that. Petry, Smid and N. Schultz have had their ups and downs but they have still been better than Fistric.

I think that N. Schultz, Smid and Petry have looked lousy this year but that's understandable considering that two of them didn't play during the lockout. Fistric has had to babysit Whitney - a tough assignment.

Yeah, they didn't play much during the lockout. And on top of that they haven't been terrible. They have been very hot and cold though and I think that will sort itself out as the season progresses, we are seeing it a lot right now with players on every team.

I got crap to do in the morning so I wont be up for the game

but I predict by the 10minute mark of the second period the powers that be will be handing out warnings and infractions like candy on Halloween

Combined minuses are a silly silly silly stat.

The only saving grace is that it's not as bad as combined +/- for forwards (since forward lines have 3 players, not 2, that get the minus).

I wouldn't actually say they've been lousy so much as inconsistent. Smid and Petry especially have had flashes of greatness (Smid on that 5 on 3 the other night was amazing) and then some fairly bad screw ups. But at least they are showing they still have their skills unlike Whitney who has been scary every time he's even looked at the puck.

Reason they seem like junk points is because most of oilers cute plays so far this season have resulted in no goals, while most points have come from broken plays, empty netters, or lucky bounces..
If Eberle and Nugey cashed in like they can and will once they realise they are no longer in the AHL then the real points will come..

The D just needs to quit being soft on the puck. Clear the pucks with conviction, make the passes crisp, no rinky dink crap going cross ice in the neutral zone or at our blue line. No fancy crap just decisive puck movement. Stick to the basics and let the forwards do their thing.

Whitney has been exactly that, soft on the puck.

Their lines don't look great, but one thing they do is work their tails off. The Oilers better work 100%.

Game of the season here... maybe too early to say that... but this will tell us what this team is...

-Win and it's a 5-3-1 team at the top of the division despite not playing great hockey... can take that momentum into an up and down schedule with lots of winnable games...

-Lose and it's 4-4-1 with no safety net...

Vancouver ripe for the picking... banged up still... you have to win these

At the very least our second line trumps theirs.
