Jagr leads the team in points? He is tied, is he not, for first, with 6 points. As for shots, his shooting percentage is actually quite low.
I was really impressed with him in the first game - he was so strong on the puck. I guess I just expect him to dominate in all aspects of the game.
He does lead the team. I think Whitney was 2nd. While I agree I expected Jagr to dominate in all aspects of the game, I think he was playing on adrenaline in the first game. Last season he had 4 Pts in his first 7 games with no goals only to score 2 goals in his 8th game and then had 41 Pts in his first 40 games.
He was also slower and heavier last season. He's actually looked much stronger on the puck in the last 2 games. The results haven't been there but they will start to come. I think in this first period he looked as good as he did in the first game. Maybe this is the beginning of something good?
I think it's even sillier to assume Gully is going directly against Joe's wishes.
They've said they talk every day about the lineup. If playing Larsen was so imperative, Larsen would be playing.
I honestly don't know what quotes piqued is referring to about Larsen. The only mention I can think of was Heika listing him as a Top 4 defender in one of his blogs.
Regardless, it is very easy to assume he's gone against the GM and owner's wishes. The owner, on local radio with Bob Sturm, specifically stated he was happy with the off-season additions because it allowed guys like Fiddler and Nystrom to be in a more appropriate role. He called them 4th liners.
GM Joe was never as direct, but when referring to the duo, his 3rd line last year, he also indicated the off-season moves would allow them to slide down the lineup for a better fit. The only place to go from the 3rd line is the 4th line.
So yes ... there are several quotes where the organization said one thing ... on multiple occasions ... and the coach did another.
If that's true of Larsen, I can't say for sure because I'm unaware of an actual quote, but the fact is it's pretty silly to say a coach would go against the wishes of management. We've already seen that happen previously in Dallas with different coaches and GMs.
So what do you folks think of our top pairing defenseman, Hunwick?
was gonna comment later after he made another mistake... something to the effect of "at least the stars don't have matt hunwick"... but yeah, he's pretty horrible... involved in both dallas goals and absolutely undisciplined penalty to yield the 5-on-3...
