He had success against Reaves who is a heavy. He can go with those guys if need be but he has more skill than a Jody Shelley or Colton Orr.

I would put him closer to Tom Sestito or Eric Boulton.

He has fought Parros to a draw so he has some experience with a super heavy but I would hope he stays away from those guys with no skill.

Wow. Nicky is a ranger.

Another local stars kid who played with my son. He's an 89 so was a year younger. Late bloomer kid. He stayed at our house a bunch of times. Hales from east of here in Clinton ny.

Big kid. Decent hands and good cycler. has a wicked shot and can be a load down low. hes a power forward who plays well down low. He's a top 9 talent but he needs a kick in the pants.

Hes been labeled. lazy. Disinterested. Moody. Some fair, some a little over cooked.

Not a bad throwin though. Slats did well here

Powe will be a garden favorite and he's a perfect torts guy. And he can flat out fly which addresses a huge need. Speed on our checking line. Good pk guy. Torts will love him.

Haha ODC, already gave my words on him back in the thread. The Palmieri family is pretty good friends with my own as I was raised in Clinton as well. He's a good kid who I think will thrive in this organization. Didnt know he played with your son though, pretty cool if you ask me.

Yeah we got a good piece or two from this... Powe will be pretty cool, pretty nice for Torts system. Palmieri can be pretty dang good too but needs motivation. He'll get it here playing for a big team, hopefully getting minutes. But I'm thrilled with this trade overall.

Ya it's pretty cool. Nicky and tommy sestito played on that team. We went to the big Quebec peewee tourney with that team.

And coolest of all, I have pics and vid of those guys inc my son playing empire west games against cally when he played for the rochester amerks and pat Kane with west Seneca.

Like this trade a lot.

Good riddance Rupp. Add him to the list of enforcers in the past 5 or so years that we've signed and they've magically degraded to beyond useless.

Rupp doesn't suck hes just past his prime. He's the one fighter Colton Orr never had a clean victory against during his time in NY. If this were Rupp from 5+ years ago this would be a horrible trade. Luckily for us, Glen Sather doesn't make time travel trades.

And with every one of his trades he continues to prove my theory that he has incriminating/humiliating photos of every GM in the NHL.

Milbury says he "doesn't get it" from a NYR perspective. I think we can all take that as evidence that it was a good move.

The more I think about this trade, the more I love it.

Rupp wasn't getting much time, and was not the player he once was. I felt he actually skated very well in TB but Torts still didn't use him much after the first, if at all. His knee issue really set him back and who knows if it can become even more of an issue going forward for a big man. I hope that isn't the case for him and Minny, I wish him all the luck.

But in Powe, you instantly get a player who's going to play 5-7 min more than Rupp was, in multiple situations. Hes a very good PKer and this team desperately needs that. He's twice as fast as Rupp. He blocked more shots than Callahan last season. He's a cheaper contract. Win, win, win, win, win.

It's very possible Slats traded a guy who's already played under 6 minutes 4 times this season, for a Steven McDonald award winner AND a young reclamation project. And he did it "early" in the season. Other than Rupps intangibles, there's no loss in this trade.

Mike Rupp sure did a lot to stop Michael Sauer getting hurt. Oh, wait. I guess he protected Staal from getting tomahawked by Malkin? Wait nope, that didn't happen.

...Gee, when did Rupp do anything useful besides toying with Marty in a playoff series we lost and scoring half his NYR goals in the WC?

When did ANY goon we had, besides Prust who's not a goon, do anything useful?

Thats awesome. Good memories for sure. I was trying earlier to explain how much Nick loves the Northeast and how hockey crazed a small town like Clinton is. But you kind of have to be there to see it. Im sure youve been to the old barn more than a few times. So much history there.

This is essentially how I view the deal as well. Little moves like this can be very underrated but pay a lot of dividends. Just Powe's defensive game and speed will be very welcome on that 4th line. If Mashinter can just skate and forecheck in addition to his fights our 4th could look a lot better. Ditch Asham and go for a slightly younger, faster look.

This is spot on. Last year it was his knee. This year? Move him before anyone catches on how far he has digressed. Minnesota has a very small team. You can't teach 6'5". He'll get work here as an occasional fighter and veteran voice in a young locker room. If they're expecting any more than that, good luck. Chuck Fletcher used to be AGM in Pittsburgh.

And I don't get why he traded Spezza and Chara for Yashin.

Milbury should keep his mouth shut.

he also said rupp was a good skater, and had good hands... both of which couldnt be further from the truth mikes clearly too caught up in his love fest for the west to pay attention to any team in the east whose mascot isnt a flightless bird.

As of right now, it's a stretch to call Nick anything more than what he is -- a minor leaguer. He is simply too far along in his development to have top 6 upside now. It may have been true a few years ago, but he is Nigel Williams-esque in his not giving a **** about learning the game and not caring.

At least I'll have a new punching bag.

It blows, too, because it would've been a great signing without his knee issues. They just killed any usefulness he had as a player.

Honestly this deal is amazing for us. A 27 solid defender and great pker in Powe for a slow moving 33 year old who is terrible on the ice and has been getting his ass kicked since the shelley fight
