Brandon Webb retires

He was one of the most dominant pitchers in baseball for his entire career. From 2003-2008 he had a 143 ERA+, gave up a miniscule 0.6 HR/9, averages 219 IP and sported a 2.46 K/BB ration. Then his arm basically fell off as he made one appearance in 2009 and after several failed comeback attempts he retired today. That 219 IP average is also artificially lowered by his reduced appearances in his rookie year. His 162 game average is 227.

Injuries did him in. He was one of the best there for a few years.

He was a great pitcher while he was healthy. He tried to come back and was clearly never the same.

Met him twice, he came across as a very good guy. Sucks to see his career end because of injuries, he was dirty when he was healthy.

Best sinker I've ever seen. Really wished he was still dominant in a DBacks uniform right now.

Looked like it was gonna be Webby and Tim Lincecum competing for the Cy Young out of the NL west for years. Now look where we are.

This was tough news to read -- another one of those "what might have been" stories, made all the more sad by the fact that we already knew he was great.

It's really a shame, loved having him in a Dbacks uni and knew every night he went out, we were always expecting a win.

Great pitcher who I had a ton of respect for as a rival. Used to piss me off because I'm a Dodger fan though lol. Awful to see him retire like this...
