Yea you can. Like it says in the OP has to be even pick trades.
So 4 teams left I don't know how many more people are joining but if it isn't filled by tonight I might allow people to take 2 teams until we get people to take over.
I still have one buddy who is definitely in, and one who is possibly in.
Just wanted to let everyone know that Raptactics is going to be a co-commissioner for the league. He's just as much a commish as I am, so treat him like one. He'll be handling the CBS stuff, making the point system, putting our information onto the website etc.. I will do all the HF threads and what not, running the draft, keeping everyone's cap situations together etc..
Ok, only two teams left now so I'm going to take CGY as a second team for now. Whoever wants to can have Anaheim as a second team until we get someone to take over.
Draft will start on Monday once the point system is posted. If you guys want you can make your picks without knowing the point system. (I assume the 1st few picks will be obvious no matter what). There will not be a time limit until Monday, though.
Here is the draft order.
1. Ottawa
2. Florida
3. Edmonton
4. Carolina

6. Toronto
7. Boston

I will post draft thread and cap central tomorrow.
Ok, since I'm paying for CBS I think it's only fair I get to be Anaheim. That's all I'm asking for in return. CBS costs $100 per season and I will pay the first year. So I'm Anaheim an not LA.
Second, a guy I know, JC is gonna grab a team. He'll be Calgary if its still available. He's a great manager and knows his stuff.
Also just to remind everybody. This is going to be a head to head league with 16 categories. Your record will score as wins, losses, and ties. So after a week if you win 10-5-1 against your opponent, that will be your record.. not 1-0. Usually the season has 20-22 weeks, depending on how the schedule shapes up and then 4 rounds of playoffs. Each division leader will occupy the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place spots just like the real NHL does it and so on and so fourth.
The scoring categories will be as follows:
Goals
Assists
Points
+/-
PIMs
Hits
Blocked Shots
Special Team Points
Game Winning Goals
Shots on Goal
Short Handed Time on Ice
Face-off Wins
Goals Against Average
Wins
Save Percentage
Shutouts
If anybody has any suggestions, I'm open to them but for now those will be the categories. This setup really gives all types of players value. Even guys like Craig Adams, or Adam Hall, or Hal Gill even. It's not just the big time scorers that are valuable because every category counts the same. Goals mean just as much as blocked shots do. Points mean just as much as PIMs do. In my opinion, this setup really gives that real life value and feel to your team. The intangibles show up on our score sheets. It's a lot of fun!
Also, I think JM and I have reached an idea when it comes to goaltending. You can only draft 4 total goalies. You can only draft one (1) starter, one (1) backup, and two (2) prospects. There will be absolutely no goalie hoarding. It's unfair and it is definitely bush league. So I repeat you can only draft 4 total goalies. 1 starter, 1 backup, and 2 prospects. We will have a minimum and maximum goalie starts. Nothing is set in stone as of right now but it will be something like a minimu of forty (40) starts, and eighty five (85) or eighty eight (88) maximum starts. Obviously barring injuries. We will most likely look at cases on a case by case basis. If injuries happen, we most likely will not force someone to go out and make a trade for a starter or another backup. We don't want to force people to Hirt the future and integrity of their team. I mean this is a 30 team league and there is only so many goalies to go around. I might even discuss this dirther with JM because iirc, CBS does allow you to just score with a goalie system. Then that takes injuries right out of the equation.
So, the draft will be 32 rounds. Everyone will be required to have a full roster. 4Cs, 8Ws, 6D, 1 starting goalie, 1 backup. I know JM has 22 total players on the main page but im going to request we have a backup as well for a total of 23 players. This will make it easier to hit that minimum starts and resch close to the maximum starts. Then you can have 1-3 bench players of any position. Also, not 100% sure what the salary cap will be but probably whatever the NHLs salary cap is. Maybe 2-5 million dollars over but not sure. Waiting for JMs input on this too.
Also, we most likely will have a waiver wire and free agent signing periods. It's still in the process of being discussed but roughly it will be something like player who have played less than 75 games at the start of the season will be waiver exempt and for goalies if they've played less than 35 games they too will be exempt. As do free agents, they will be eligible to sign up until Jan. 1st. These are not set in stone so be prepared for things to change.
I think we will have to have only so many contracts we can have. Probably something like 55-60 total. And something like 75 total player spots. This will prevent people from hoarding players/prospects.
Every amateur draft we have will be somewhere between 3-5 rounds. Waiting to hear back from JM on this. I purposed 4 rounds. This could change. We will likely have a waiver draft annually as well for those Euro and NCAA free agents. It will probably be a lot like the CHL's import draft where you can just pass on making a selection. I would purpose that these picks are not eligible to be traded but that's up for debate.
So, JM and I will be the commissioners of this league. Most decisions will be made by us but I have suggested to JM that of things get to the point where we cannot agree on something we will have a 3 or 5 person competition committee for voting purposes only.
So again, these are very rough and raw guidelines but I wanted everyone to know what type of league this is going to be. Please, if anyone has any suggestions, please PM JM or myself. Anything posted here publicly will be ignored. I don't want to start a big debate. I'm definitely open to suggestions from league members and of they are reasonable requests, JM and I will consider them. Again, if you have ideas, PM myself or JM.
Also, my buddy JC wants Calgary and I'm going to be Anaheim, not LA. I'm paying for the league so the only thing I'm requesting is I be Anaheim.
If I think of anything else, I'll make another post.
Raptactics thanks for paying for us I cant wait to get this thing up and running! So im currently in 2 leagues on espn and was wondering if its similar with CBS in terms of submitting your lineup each day. In both my leagues on espn you Start 9 F 6 D and 2 G for the night. Is CBS Similar?
also will the head to head winner be determined by Categories? for example GM 1 has 10 goals and 9 assists for the week and player B has has 4 Goals and 6 Assists is my Record then 2-0 or 1-0. Or by fantasy football Scoring ex. Goal is worth 3 points assist is worth 2 then you tally up points at the end of the week. Again thanks Raptactics for the Hookup

Thanks!
You'd be 2-0. Every category you beat your opponent in is a win and every one you lose in is a loss and same with the tie. That's why losing 7-8-1 isnt as bad as losing 0-16 and it shouldn't be.
Also guys, I just want to let everyone know that even with just 4 categories focused on goalies, they're still massive pieces. Goalies still score in assists, PIms, SHTOI, etc. I wouldn't mind cutting out points because as someone did point out, they are redundant, and add another goalie category. Just have to figure out which one. When I get back I will look deeper. If anyone has any ideas, let me know.
I don't care what the settings are, but ONCE THE GAME BEGINS, don't change the rules, okay?
There's nothing more frustrating that tailoring picks to compete in one game, only to have the rules and parameters change to the point that one is in effect playing a different game.
ok thank god! down for chicago. Thanks Raptsctics for paying! havent checked out the site yet, but I'm sure it will be much better!
No problem at all. I've been wanting to start a league and this opportunity presented itself at the perfect time. I thought about just coming on hf and asking 29 randoms to join but at least this way JM had a following. I've heard he ran a good league as I've been in leagues with Frank (the Nudge aka fedro91) before and he recommended JM when he saw this thread. Paying for the league is no issue. If the league is operating will each and every year, I will always pay the fee. I still say we should have our own forums dedicated to this league. People say they wouldn't go to it but I think that's simply untrue. If the league's entertaining and fun, you all will go there.. no doubt in my mind. My last league became a lot of our GMs homepage when they signed onto the net. We all started on hf but bbkl became a way of life. It was our own little community where we talked hockey, had amazing discussions, we each had our own sub forum to keep track of our trades, our prospects, who and where we drafted, and most importantly, our roster/farm system. In a league this deep, I still say having forums is vital but for now we will make due posting here.
JM, you should reconsider. Think about it. We obviously do not need the forums today but we are gonna need to track trades, draft history, probably roster moves as we will have a waiver wire, all teams and farm systems, general discussion, and then rules/etc... all I'm saying is consider it. I'm dead serious, if the league is good enough and people are hardcore like I believe the majority will be because of how indepth and realistic the scoring system will make this feel, people will go to the forums and make them work.
