Like the stats everyone is bringing up, here's another one.

We've spent more time killing penalties than anyone else in the league and are still # in goals against per game!

After 43 games

team stat 2011/2012 rank 2013 rank
Goals per game 2.96 4th 2.40 25th
Goals against per game 2.88 24th 2.05 2nd
5 on 5 for/against 1.04 10th 1.09 9th
Powerplay 18.2% 11th 16.8% 18th
Penalty kill 81.6% 20th 88.3% 2nd
Faceoffs 50.1% 16th 49.6% 18th

Our strong defensive play ended up holding up(still 5 games to go though). And as predicted, our offense should pick up again when we get our stars back. Will update again end of season.

Spezza and Karlsson account for the missing stats on offense, faceoffs, and PP.

The fact that we have become amazing defensively will make us an amazing team.

Love it!!!! Though I guess he has just played 20 games so far. No offence though. I thought Anderson was an awesome starter and a great goalie, but I did not expect that he keeps up being the best goalie in the world.... But he has!!!! Even after injury. Mr. Anderson!

I actually think this is really really encouraging.

Yeah our offense has dropped off, but that is missing our 3 most offensive players for the majority of the season.

The defense and goaltending we've had this season have been great, and with the experience players like Zibby, Silfver, Conacher are getting this year, and then the addition of Spezza and Karlsson -- I'm not totally worried about our offense. (still think we need ONE more top winger just to drive us further).

If we can keep up our defensive game next season, and have our stars back to replicate our offense from last season...oh baby. This team could be freaking scary.

I think the biggest blessing of these injuries will be all our young guys getting massively increased roles. Turris will find it a breeze to be a 2nd line C after this.
