Ovechkin for Shea Weber
It gives the Preds an instant offense and possibly gets the Caps the only "true" value it will get for Weber. It works salary wise. Would the Preds or Caps do it?

Two underperforming superstars traded for each other? Logically it makes sense but it would never happen. Makes less sense from the Caps perspective positionally and I think Weber has slightly more value, though.

Both are among the very very best at their respective positions, but personally I value building around a defender more than a winger.

Because for the last few seasons, Ovie's numbers have been decreasing. From 109 pts to 86 pts, then down to 65 pts.
Yeah, I realize Weber is struggling without Suter this season. But, his play has not been steadily trending downward over multiple seasons.
If given the choice of one of the two, I'd take Weber. I think his play is more likely to rebound to elite level.

I'm a Nashville fan, if that helps. It changes up their vibe, but it also decreases their salary/dollar demands going forward.

I think given the even choice of Weber and Ovechkin that a vast majority of people would take Weber.

Weber has to have more value right now. This is not the Ovechkin of 3 years ago and that should be taken into account.

Green and Carlson are both right side defensemen, just like Weber. The Preds would have better luck getting Carlson than Alzner.
That being said, no way the Caps add anything meaningful to Ovechkin to get Weber. But the premise of this doesn't make me isntantly vomit like most Ovechkin threads.

Considering contracts, performance, trending, etc, as a fan of neither team, I take Weber over OV every time.

On the ice maybe, but from a business perspective? I'd imagine that Ovechkin might be the ticket to attract more corporate sponsorship.

Absolutely - what ovechkin does on the ice makes for a more exciting product and he's a media draw.

Considering what Nashville has to pay Weber as bonus money in the first two years of his contract I do not see any scenario where they would trade him. He has huge value to the team on and off the ice and they are paying basically $28 million in about a year span of signing his contract. They will not pay him that and then ship him out of town.

Weber-Green at the point on the PP would be insane..... I don't want that in the same conference.
